The Crowdfunding Thread

I backed. I couldn’t help myself. I love the big game. I love Race as well. The intersection sounds intriguing. I also NEED the metal cubes.

Tempted, but it’s going to retail. It’s going to be over £50 even with the strong pound.

I couldn’t do the metal cubes because I’m paranoid enough about losing plastic cubes. If I payed $45-70 for metal cubes, I’d be downright neurotic.

I think I’ve previously made my less-than-favorable opinion about Terraforming Mars public. I’ve played it a few times (probably my most-played disliked game, because my ex-neighbor and pre-COVID-primary-gaming-opponent really likes it).

There’s just too many different cards that going into it with any sort of strategy is a bit of a craps shoot.

I’ll now make my point: back the crowdfunding campaigns of games you want to see. If you’re passionate about Left-Handed Purple-Wrought Rotator Couplers, and a new one pops up on Kickstarter… then… you know, pledge for one. And don’t feel bad about it (unless your LHPWRC budget is already blown for the month/year/millennia)

Yeah, I don’t mean to be completely dismissive; but given how many games have already been built on that very specific Puerto Rico mechanic I can’t help feeling it’s a little overdone. That’s for me; if you get it and enjoy it I don’t think that makes you a Bad Gamer.

I liked the one game of Terraforming Mars I’ve played (despite having, because I cannot abide incomplete game collections, all the expansions). But and this may be silly, I’m so put off by describing this project as “Terraforming Mars: The Card Game”, as if Terraforming Mars were, you know, not a card game, that I didn’t even look into it.

Yeah I’m at a bit of a loss. I feel like I’m missing something with regards to what it’s bringing that the big box version didn’t. It hasn’t shrunk it to a size where I’ll be breaking it out in the pub (pretending that is a thing).

This must be more a lack on my part of reading in to it than anything else.

I never saw Terraforming Mars as a card game. It’s no Bridge, Tichu, or Magic:TG, after all. The cards just felt like part of the mechanism. Sure, Power Grid has auctions that are really important to the gameplay and strategy, but I wouldn’t call it an auction game. Since Ares strips out the tile playing and focuses solely on the cards, I can see where someone would say, “yeah, but, it doesn’t deviate enough from the original to buy.” Now, the TM Dice Game, whenever it comes out… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I think TM is ok but nothing special. It is one of my most played games because my husband loves it and thinks it is amazing. We have every expansion and I backed this “card game” version day 1 for him.

I mean there’s a board, sure, but everything you do in the game involves drafting, playing or using cards and the board is basically just tracking.

I agree. So is Blood Rage. some card games are just clever at hiding their true nature  doesn’t mean I enjoy them any less

I think what with Perseverance landed we need to play a Mars themed game today. I have a few…

You saying you have some Mars themed games is like pillbox saying he has Roads & Boats.

I only have 5 games that feature Mars as far as I am aware because I didn’t buy Mission Red Planet when it was still available and after the abysmal review SUSD gave First Martians never bought that either. I will definitely buy Red Rising though before anyone can make me reconsider :stuck_out_tongue:

Ps my most recent shopping spree came close to including my very own copy of Roads and Boats. I was a bit surprised that it was still available …

First Martians is interesting. I bought it despite the review for soloing. You need to look up a lot of clarifications, but it’s an interesting puzzle. Got to finish the second campaign, then I’ll give it away to some of you lovely people.

I like that “only”

I was perusing my collection for Mars settings yesterday (hence a new thread about starting player mechanisms). Got me wanting to play Martian Rails. Then today, the designer of Martian Rails posted on BGG with an image showing where on the game board the Perseverance landing was.

Looking at the latest photos I made the right decision, that thing is huge!

But oooooh pretty dice :slightly_smiling_face:

Goodness it’s so big :grimacing: That expansion dice box has gotten a lot bigger since the initial campaign… Looking forward to having more Railroad Ink, but I’m going to have to find somewhere to put it.

Originally it was the same size (or smaller) than a normal box of Railroad Ink, so it would have been a nice place to store a few of the stretch goal dice and cards.

Now it’s the size of four copies of Railroad Ink, so would be taking up more space on my shelf than actual copies of Railroad Ink. And as someone who didn’t buy everything would be full of a whole bunch of air.
