The Crowdfunding Thread

I jumped in on Bucket of Bolts and also grabbed Artefact. I’m not sure how much I will enjoy solo journaling RPGs… but I do think it would be fun to do as a collaborative storytelling exercise (which probably suggests I should look at collaborative storytelling games instead)

Just a tad excited about this. The Vagabond is my favourite “faction” to play with, it will be interesting to see how they develop this expansion.

Is this a good way to get my first 18xx right now?

1860 is fairly unique among 18xx games; that said, it may be a good entry point. 18xx has a pretty steep learning curve cliff and 18Chesapeake or the upcoming (soon on Kickstarter by Grand Trunk Games) 1889 may be a smoother option.

That said, I don’t particularly care for 18Ches or 1889 and I think 1860 looks way better.

GMT will be putting out a new printing of 1846 soon(?) as well, and that is interesting and highly regarded

Dammit, anyone who backed Cascadia: the pledge manager is now open to add a copy of Calico.

I just can’t justify paying £35 for Calico with nearly £20 US to UK postage (not reduced for delivering at the same time as Cascadia), when it’s on UK pages for £30. Guess I’ll wait for the restock.

I’ve been considering putting my copy on eBay, it’s a good game and everything but I’m also getting Cascadia and… sorry, I don’t like cats very much!

Played twice so mint condition, happy to let it go for face value, drop me a msg if interested!

FedEx came today:

When I pledged for this, my hope was that I’d play through it with my group in the alternate weeks from our rpg campaign, but since there is no schedule to play face-to-face, I may just have to play solo.

(The gaming tablecloth was a gift from another group member.)

Railroad Ink is on a boat!

I also asked for a refund on the “Purple Box” which they’ve accommodated. It feels a bit petty but at least means it won’t end up in the recycling when it arrives.

Latest KS to be delivered :partying_face::partying_face:

This has been the biggest hit with 2 of my buddies on TTS so very pleased to have a copy ready for in person gaming when/if that’s possible. The included tile trays are very snazzy. Such a nice production I’ll almost definitely be in for 1889 when Grand Trunk kickstart that.

If Im not mistaken, I’m the odd one who wasnt wowed by it :joy:

You are not mistaken. Dom was most wowed by it.

I think it has good things going for it. The auctions are easily balanced but are still interesting. The mergers are tricky to time right and have quite some jeopardy in them. 2 track lays allows plenty of progress on the board quickly. Then the board is quite a fun one to build on. Maybe not in my top tranche personally but for a school night game and a more light hearted time I think it does a good job. Of Chicago Express is like a filler for an 18xx then maybe 1861 is the clean, fun accessible quicker game. Maybe something like Viticulture or Lords of Waterdeep, or even better but less well known, New Bedford in the WP/euro world.

I do like '61 for its merger focus. That bit is fun. I have played 18xx titles that I dont want to try again, but this one isnt one of those. Though, I have only played it once…

So which ones don’t you have much interest in trying again?

Mark Derrick’s Dixie states titles like 18GA. And 1836Jr. Their 1 train purchase per OR rule brings the Milton Friedman inside me that I didnt know I have. :joy:

Do I need this? No.
Do I need to kickstart it? No.
Are the add-on and shipping costs reasonable? No.
Did I pledge anyway? Yes.

I have no particular love for TM – I accept that there’s skill in it, since some players consistently do better than others, but it feels very random to me and I only play it at conventions if the people I’m with are playing it anyway.

That said, if I wanted to play Race for the Galaxy I’d just play that.

I only played Race once and didn’t care for it. That was years ago and maybe my opinion could change if I played enough, but I’ve played enough of TM to know I really like it.

Dismissing Ares as just Race is like dismissing any deckbuilder as Dominion.
