I could understand excluding Hawaii and Alaska - what are the other two?

Bought Scout!, because I love cool trick taking games, and this has been hard to find
And added Goat n Goat and Moon Adventure

Hawaii and Alaska are included (at a higher shipping rate).

Missing:

  • Kansas
  • Missouri
  • Oklahoma
  • Pennsylvania
  • South Dakota

I cannot explain either A) why these states are excluded or B) how I miscounted before and arrived at 46

Well, that’s an interesting puzzle for someone who knows more about US states than me to solve …

Apparently BoardGameBliss is carrying pre-orders for Eclipse Second Dawn for the Galaxy and did not object to me entering a US address in the shipping information. I’ve ordered from BoardGameBliss once before and had a great experience.

Interestingly, I went back and read the email from Lautapelit and they said that since their US distribution wouldn’t fulfill to my state, I could order it directly from their Finland supply, but pay higher shipping rates. When I contacted Funagain about this to ensure the missing states were not a mistake, I was informed by Funagain that the states not listed are due to Lautapelit’s decision on which taxes they are willing to deal with for the pre-orders – I really don’t understand how they are willing to ship directly from Finland to Kansas, but not through their US fulfillment partner; then again, I know very little about international tax laws.

Oh well, I think right now the conversion rates for Euro and CAD mean the preorder through BGB is cheaper. Fingers crossed it’s not cancelled.

BoardgameBliss is my go-to store. They have a great ā€œhold/mergeā€ option, and fantastic customer service.

I’ve never taken advantage but apparently they take requests for Essen and will also try and do special orders if they can.

Really good people.

After not having anything new come in for a while, the stars aligned and a few things all arrived on the same day:

Ticket to Ride: First Journey (Europe) –

Picked this one up in a BGG auction for a good price, and holding onto it as a 5th (or 6th?) birthday present for my oldest daughter; she was doing really well with playing her games by the rules, but has recently regressed. Not sure where she’s going to be maturity-wise with more involved games over the next couple of years.

Zendo: Rules Expansion #1 / Zendo: Rule Expansion #2 –

Just a couple of small items I threw into my shopping cart while shopping for…

The Fuzzies –

This will be a Christmas present for my partner. She loves the old PopCap game Chuzzle and I can’t look at this without thinking about that. By Christmas, she’ll be 8 months pregnant, so it’s going to be a while before we actually play this

Kabuto Sumo –

I’ve heard promising things about this and noticed the Kickstarter edition still available directly from (a local business for me) BoardGameTables. I played through a two-handed solo game last night to ensure I understood the rules; I’m still a little iffy on how firmly you can hold the piece you are pushing… but other than that, it’s a perfectly-lightweight game that’s essentially one of those coin push arcade machines, but with charming beetles illustrated by Kwanchai Moriya.

My new copy of Formosa Tea arrived unscathed and was already put on the table in a few rounds of 2 handed learning last night and despite finding the manual unhelpfully written, I love the design, the colors and most importantly the interwoven mechanics of tea production.

The reasons for buying this were two fold: I wanted a tea game but I also wanted one designed by someone local (in this case Taiwan) and this fulfills both as my other tea themed game Alubari which was so much fun to play at Spiel as failed to capture me in solo play (arriving mid-pandemic hasnā€˜t helped multiplayer)

I am glad I now have a pristine copy of Formosa Tea. My only criticism so far is the rulebook which lacks a single play example. So learning by just playing became quite hard (especially as I was playing Tash Kalar on BGA while learning this)

Next up: my German copy of Awkward Guests arrived after some of the usual pandemic delays. I backed this on Spieleschmiede in a duology of FOMO (the English version had been unavailable for a while as the game is not exactly fresh at this point) and my love for deduction. That is all. It is very beige. Although I like that the box looks like a little coffer.

And today in a fit of ā€žAdd To Cartā€œ therapy (the news is getting to me more than usual), I finally preordered Food Chain Magnate which I have been waffling about for the better part of two years now. I know I do not really have a group for it (ah well maybe the people I played Pax Pamir with) and I have never played a single Splotter game… but I want to learn FCM at least possibly play with someone online and I am 110% sure if I think it shouldnā€˜t be in my collection I can sell it on as soon as it is out of print again.

Also, tomorrow or the day after my copy of Rallyman GT (just the base game for now) should arrive. After playing a bunch of online games and recently a 6 player race with some of the forum denizens, I think I can safely say I have finally found a fun racing game—or at least one that I think is fun and that is going to fill a niche in my collection that has been empty since I got rid of Formula D.

Lemminge is here! All the way from Zagreb! (I’m old enough to think that that’s kind of cool.)

Anyone know how I could go about getting the unofficial extra boards from yucata in physical form? (Getting on for A2 size, and the size has to match because of the bonus terrain tiles. I found a printer who does actual short-run game boards, but they’d be about Ā£65 each…)

Somewhere like doxdirect for large format printing then spraymount on A2 grey board?

Makes sense. Then of course I wonder whether I should cut it up and have it done in four smaller bits, then make my own folding board so that it fits in the box.

Not bought, it’s my birthday today. Got this bad boy!

My wife is sneaky. Apparently this came from The Netherlands via our friend in France (who we’ve not met yet!)

Also, my Dad has made me some garden ornaments

Speaking of our Finnish friends, is there any update on when the ā€œGrand Tourā€-expansion for Flamme Rouge is coming?

I haven’t seen anything and the publisher is being awfully cagey about it (rather than just saying something like: ā€œManufacturing and logistics in 2021 are inconsistent and expensiveā€)

Yeah, last year they were saying ā€œit’ll go to KS this yearā€, and basically nothing since.

yeah, i’ve been checking BGG and Lautapelit on an irregular basis, but no news since the KS thing.

It’s also the last expansion i really want from the game to complete it for me personally.
