Here in Kansas City, it’s common to serve a slice of sandwich bread with BBQ.

My dad’s favorite BBQ restaurant will often just give you an entire loaf of white sandwich bread if you order family-style carry out.

Pro-tip: sandwich bread is a good, edible substitute to napkins. Eating proper BBQ is a messy undertaking.

There was a fun conversation going around bluesky a couple days ago about how to know you have found a good restaurant of a particular cuisine type. It was started by a theory that the better a barbecue joint is, the cheaper and crappier will be the provided bread.

My brain: “What?! Oh. Oh, napkins. Not nappies.”

We visited Gothenburg. These were taken during a fun boat ride. The guide was a master of Gothenburg humor which apparently consists of a lot of bad and not so bad puns (in both English and Swedish) and in making fun of Stockholm

This was the most important sight. Great selection of books, comics, mangas, rpgs and boardgames. A friend who lived here for a while 25 years ago had fond memories of visiting back then. They had both a Star Wars altar (shelf) and a Studio Ghibli altar :star_struck:

Absolutely must see, if you visit the city.

We also visited Systembolaget. And unlike this photo suggests they had a great selection of wines for much bettet prices than expected. Some cheaper than we would get at home. (my partner has become a wine nerd so he would know)

I understand from a Swedish friend that being the organisation that sells all the legal alcohol in Sweden gives them a fair bit of negotiating power with producers, even huge ones like Diageo.

(There’s also the usual convenience of a standard: if the thing you want is on the list, you can get it from your local System, at the same price as anywhere else in Sweden. They will all order in anything on the list if it’s not in stock.)

A few pictures from Norway. It is such a beautiful country, we drove from one beautiful place to the next. Amazing!
We loved our time there though it was all very expensive :open_mouth: but we are going back another time for sure.

I am reading the books to my daughter. He’s just appeared in life, the universe…, which is the only reason I can remember his name.

A wonderful character, perfectly portrayed by Richard Vernon.

‘Science has achieved some wonderful things, of course, but I’d far rather be happy than right any day.’

‘And are you?’

‘No. That’s where it all falls down, of course.’

'Late, as in the late Dent, Arthur Dent.

It’s a sort of threat, you see. I’ve never been terribly good at them.’

And, of course:

‘It may disturb you.’ [pause]
‘It scares the willies out of me.’
