I need to redo Clone Wars - I stopped half way through Season 2. Never even got to Rebels
Iām thinking this year Iām going to start something Iāve been wanting to do for ages. Pick a classic actor and watch their filmography from beginning to end to see how they develop. Not sure who to pick tho
The last season of Clone Wars is among the best Star Wars ever produced.
The last⦠3, maybe 4 episodes?.. I lack the language to convey how good it is.
Getting to that point has some very, very rough patches, but gosh does the show ever pay back that patience in spades.
Agree to disagree. It is good, yes, but after viewing it, I felt almost disappointed after all the hype over it.
Interesting! I held of watching it for a ridiculously long time (years?) because I hated so much of the earlier seasons (the Anakin/Spirits of the Force arc in particular was so godsdamn Deus Ex Machina I almost quit on the spot).
As a result, I went in with low, low expectations for that last season and was just gabberflasted by how good it was. But, as always, YMMV.
Watching Boba Fett, which seems good so far (2 eps in)
Also The Watch, which I heard about ages ago but never followed up. It uses the characters from Sir Terry Pratchetts books, but it appears to be set in a steampunk world. Not sure about it so far.
Two episodes into The Witcher, I am liking this series way more than the previous one.
Even with the Eskel incident.
Do you need to see the first series of The Witcher before watching the second?
Yes. I would say you do.
I started watching the second recently, and it was hard piecing together what was going on with only vague memories of the first season to go on, even though (or perhaps because) I also read the books and played the games. Reading back through the synopsis of the first season helped.
Definitely.
If you havenāt read the books or you donāt know the story through the video games, most definitely.
I watched Dune finally - it was okay. Cinematography was terrific, the actual film was mixed. Nothing awful but just, not that interesting - which sucks because I found the novel rather enjoyable when I read it a few years ago. Maybe it wouldāve been better as one 3 hour movie rather than 2x 2 1/2 hour moviesā¦
The Book of Boba Fett could go either way honestly at this point. The first episode was pretty weak I thought, second was rather good, so yeah⦠who knows.
Hilda - The Mountain King was a bit predictable, plot-wise but well done. Itās a great addition to a great series, with or without kids.
Iām enjoying Book of Boba Fett. Itās good absurd Star Wars.
I didnāt know I wanted to hear Danny Trejo talk about Rancors. In fact I would
have said that was a scene I did not want. Turns out Danny Trejo was the catalyst there.
The youth speeder gang modifying themselves with droid parts and modifying their speeders with bright colors and lots of mirrors was just my brand of absurd cultural reference to add.
Iād expected this to just be dour Star Wars but itās happily got my brand of absurd in.
Iām thinking Tom Hanks would be a good candidate. Heās certainly developed from his early years
A few years late, but we watched all of Over the garden wall over the last week.
It was⦠odd. Clearly wore itās heart on itās sleeve, with references to the dawn of animation right through to Edward Gorey. Really, really interesting (for a kids animation. Sort of.)
I just got back from seeing The French Dispatch, and oh my goodness Wes Andersonās films are an absolute joy.
Saw Spielbergās West Side Story tonight. Itās gotten some strong reviews, but I only thought it was āokā. The thing that killed it for me was that Tony and Maria have pitifully little chemistry together, and in particular there was absolutely no spark in their meeting to make me believe they could possibly have fallen in love at first sight⦠ācuriosityā was about the level of attraction that I felt from that scene; and when the entire story hinges on that notion, the film just fell flat. Frankly Iām a sappy movie-goer ā every trick in the book to manipulate the audience works on me ā so I feel that something has gone awry when a film with this story affects me so little.
More disappointing was The Matrix: Resurrections which I went to on the weekend. I didnāt mind the setup, and I generally enjoyed how self-referential it all was, but it just didnāt gel for me. They tried to cram too much into it; the action scenes were devoid of dramatic impact; and the storyline simply didnāt build in any kind of satisfying manner ā scenes just came and went, with precious little reason to care. I didnāt have particularly high hopes for it given the crushing awfulness of Revolutions and itās a better film than that; but I have to say that Reloaded was better than this latest one (albeit partly because in my head it was providing a set-up for something vastly better than we actually got). I guess part of me was just holding out hope that weād get something special again.
Just seen the trailer to Moon Knight - looks like it could be fun!
Watched The House on Netflix. Oddly comic, deeply creepy trio of chapters set in a mysterious and seemingly unnatural building. Voice cast includes Mark Heap and Jarvis Cocker. The models and animation are fabulous, with each chapter directed by a different team.
Last week saw the trailer for The Northman. Looks epic, and I did not see anything too out of place.
Watched the latest Mission Impossible (Fallout?? The one with Henry Cavill in a moustache, there are so many). Enjoyed it, if at the end I was predicting very much what was going to happen.
