Watched Encanto at the weekend because my good lady wife wanted to. She was right on the money. Really good Disney film with enough for both the kid and adult in me. Too many characters, but what a cracking set of songs. Love a good musical me!
Yes, the soundtrack has been on repeat for ages in our house
Loved Encanto, but I will NOT be able to make it through a certain song in it a second time without sobbing like a tiny child.
Watched Disaster the series 5 episode of Star Trek the next generation.
Itās still brilliant, and the separate threads of everyone being separated is really well done.
What I didnāt remember is how little of the disaster we see.
We recently watched or rather binged all of Hawkeye in one session. Seems we enjoyed the show.
Heās never been my favoriteābut he has such great āsidekicksā here⦠Jelena makes me laugh with joy with every appearance. And so many great setups of story arcs. We really enjoyed how smoothly it all came together. I like it when people see reason: as Maya does eventually. And I really liked the escapee from the Princess Bride.
We started on Wanda Vision but so far it hasnāt had the same āneed to see next episodeā feelingāwhich is good, today is not a week-end.
⦠a few days back we rewatched Episode 1. I had no memory it started with āI have a bad feeling about this.ā and I really didnāt need a reminder how grating Jar Jar is. What did they think back then? Also: virgin birth and making the ānever behaves logicallyā force suddenly be quantifiable? Waaah. Having seen more of the Jedi Council shenanigans in Clone Wars I like Quigon even more. But having spent too much time on r/prequelmemes I can almost turn the movie into a speak-along.
Then we also started Boba Fett. Itās Rodriguez. So that. Exceptājust some griping no actual spoilersā the scenes when apparently the writerās team forgot that they are working in a medium where showing is much much easier than telling and telling becomes painfully obvious. Iāve read too much writing advice over the years not to be put off by such cheap escapes as letting a character give a lengthy presentation about a situation because the audience needs to know. This is not a childrenās show we could have done with a bit of conjecture.
And PS: the local newspaper called Dune a fantasy film today.
That was just a great great scene. Still not sure how that will turn out. Is it hungry or not?
And I agree about the gang. Those speeders are like Vespas arenāt they? Except they are hover-vespas.
That takes a few episodes, then suddenly it all kicks off and all the buildup has been worth it. Stay with it, it gets VERY good.
I loved Hawkeye, but then I do (very amateur) archery (and will again when covid lets me).
I think Hawkeye is my favourite of them all so far. Maybe thereās also some nominative determinism bias in there as well.
It might just be because itās most recent but then Iād say I definitely preferred Wandavision over the forgettable TF&tWS.
Not sure where Loki fits in all that.
Iām watching Boba Fett but Iām finding it a bit dull. Suppose Iāll stick it out to see where it goes.
Hawkeye was just the most fun of the bunch, and honestly turned out how I expected TF&tWS to go. It was practically advertised as a buddy cop show, but was nothing of the sort. Hawkeye and Kate had a great chemistry which really helped the series shine.
Wandavision was really good, with a sort of Twin Peaks feeling to the beginning, but getting moreā¦Marvel-y as the series went on. Which wasnāt bad, per se, but it did change the vibe of the show.
And I did enjoy Loki, but it really needs the second season, as I think it suffered by needing to be cut in half due to Covid.
Looking forward to Moon Knight, though sad to hear one of the actors died due to a skiing accident.
Need to get to Book of Boba Fett, but Iām not there yet.
My better half has been a bit busy lately with preparation for her new semester, so I left The Witcher s. 2 on hold and started last night with After Life season 3. So far so good, three episodes in one sitting an it did not disappoint. A great combination of ridiculous situations with witty humour. Very recommended series.
Apparently āWe donāt talk about Brunoā from Encanto is doing REALLY well in the charts. Like, better than Let it Go levels. Who knew all it took was Lin-Manuel Miranda writing a big ensemble musical number!
Thats because its a great song. As is Surface Pressure!
My partner argues that this is the same guy that made a movie about 3 guys playing the guitarā¦
edit: Actually⦠looking at it from that POVāthere is too much happening.
Someone should do a Star Wars version of Once Upon a Time in the West (the German title of which is so much better āSpiel mir das Lied vom Todā)⦠and ⦠I had to google that.
I absolutely love that movie
Finished After Life. Really sweet. B****rd Gervais got me crying again, but in a good way. Lovely series.
So we finished Wanda Vision yesterday. Oh wow now that went places⦠now I am actually looking forward to more of this. And grieving more about whatever the fuck the Loki series was.
Tonight we watched the most recent episode of Boba Fett. Still slow going. I guess if he is working to a good finale itāll be worth it. Weāll see.
Then as I was playing Spirit Island I half watched along as my partner rewatched Bohemian Rhapsody. For comparison, we also watched the actual footage from Live Aid which can be found on youtube⦠two takeaways: the attention to detail in the movie is insane. And Brian May really looks like he is the adult on stageā¦
Watched The Good Place season 1 and Succession season 1 and enjoyed both. Will continue with them.
I like how TGP got philosophy on a simple layout rather than fake deep or other BS takes with it.
Succession - I still dont know if itās trying to be a drama or a comedy, but I like the ambiguity of it
EDIT: Itās Succession
The Good Place is so goood. I have watched it all the way through at least three times, probably more.
I tend to put it on in the background now when Iām working soā¦
