That last scene (apart from the end credit scene) is exactly what I was thinking about. So believeable!
So I watched the first episode of Book of Boba Fett and I enjoyed it far more than I expected. I spent most of the 90ās ignoring everything about the character because I was satisfied with the resolution and the brief summary of his motivation from Marvelās Star Wars comic issue 68.
Iām inordinately pleased the show runners alluded to a visual from Marvelās issue 81 in the opening. Like thatās something that felt aimed right at me and hooked me well.
Also I wonder if they are repurposing John Carter digital assets. That looked like a palette swapped Barsoom Apt to me.
Which is even more hilarious what with issue 53 of Star Wars being recycled canceled John Carter art.
Lastly my buddies and I always dug the sand people particularly after one of the bits of flavor text from the West End Games Star Wars supplements. Iām sure theyāll catch flack on comparisons to Dune at some point but what the heck.
Cobra Kai this long weekend. Proper guilty pleasure.
Not kidding at all, the writing on Cobra Kai is unbelievably good.
For a show thatās full of goofy Good Vs Evil ideas, they manage to make characters who are nuanced, grey-area, wrong but more sympathetic than the guy whoās right, on their own journeys but acting in a way that makes perfect sense, and they surprised me in the latest series with SO MANY TWISTS that I didnāt see coming at all. And itās for a brash comedy that could have just been simple and silly. Someone on that writing team is a master, thereās so much more going on than you expect.
I must admit that sometimes I feel like watching a serial like Santa Barbara or Melrose Place, but then they hit you with another twist. And it goes up a notch. And it is very addictive. So much, that I did 10 episodes in 3-4 nightsā¦
I need to actually sit and watch that. We started up the first episode at one point, but never got back to it.
A~Just finished all 4 seasons of Crazy Ex Girlfriend. I didnāt think Id enjoy it when it was described to me but it is funny, sad, endearing, actually a pretty good depiction of certain mental conditions and good songs to boot
We watched the new Dune movie the other day at last⦠4k even if only in the living room. Need to watch again and need to find a big screen to see it onāin English.
This is awesome. I am so glad I read the books again. Casting is good or even great? And: nice beard, Oscar and wtf Aquaman where is yours?!
Whoever designed the thopters deserves an Oscar (without a beard) for that alone.
And the scale of the ships and buildings and⦠the shield fighting.
I found it remarkable how close this one stayed to the book for the most part but I really wish it had been four hours long. I want more.
I rewatched it on NYE and the soundtrack has kept me company over the course of this week, with the bass turned up LOUD
I watched the latest Bond film tonight. It was dumb but fine.
Paid actual money to watch The Suicide Squad last night. Itās not high art but it was highly entertaining.
Not sure I can watch Dune now that Iāve seen one too many people dissecting the plot holes and inexplicable situations the film introduces.
I liked the SyFy channelās (Sci-Fi back then) Dune miniseries. Iām good. I donāt need to see the new movie.
After binging our way though the 3 seasons of Humans (and leaving my wife disappointed that there were no more seasons), we switched to Orphan Black. Iād seen the first 3 seasons, but never finished it. Iāve been enjoying re-watching Season 1.
I admit I didnāt notice those plot holes. Maybe due to having just re-read the book I auto-completed the missing parts. But thanks for mentioning it so I can avoid reading reviews before watching it again. Maybe Iāll notice on second viewing. The first time, we were both too busy being awed by the cinematographyā¦
In the before times, I used to write stories and even longer ago I used to GM RPGs. When I create stories my focus has always been on characters first, world-building second and I am not really good at writing plot. So when I watch movies or read books, I focus on characters and world-building over plot. And sometimes when the first two are great enough, I am apparently unable to notice plot issues.
Went to see the new Ghostbusters, which I generally enjoyed. The end seemed a bit anti-climactic.
After 38 years Mr Stay Puft has a rickety knee and lower back pain. The poor guy never had a chance. (I have not seen the new film.)
We finished watching Star Wars Rebellion Rebels today.
Great characters. Canāt decide who I like the most. Sabine? Or Hera? I think Sabine. No, Hondo of course.
Anyway, is it me or did they deliberately obscure where on the timeline it sits until the very end?
This was my first time meeting a certain general with a faible for collecting art. I like him. I really do. Heās a nerd.
My other big takeaway was that the writerās team either needs to fully commit to r/prequelMemes or avoid quoting the prequels at all. You canāt have āHello thereā without āThis is where the fun begins.ā
So what shall we watch next. I think itās time for some movie goodness from a galaxy far far away.
You made me think I was missing out on a show somehow, then realized you meant Rebels.
Yeah, see I asked my partner āwas it Rebels or Rebellion?ā Weāre a good fit, we both canāt remember stuff like titles, where we put our keys or what was that thing that needs to go on the shopping listā¦?
In either case, it just reminds me I need to get back to watching it. I am in the middle of season 1.
