Twilight Struggle PBF, public thread

Wait for you to go to Pakistan and pounce with a coup. I’ll get Afghanistan to pressure you, or take France. Maybe the latter for me, dont know about Benkyo.

France sounds nice as this gives me access to the tougher 2 stability Algeria. So if I use Decol, I dont need to spend one in Algeria.

I’ll use De Gaulle as ops if France is not US. Why waste a card? But everyone’s points make sense with De Gaulle and Suez Crisis cancelling your defence in France. But that means Soviets loses 2 cards from the deck.

This is what makes TS such a deliciously mind bending game. Every play is wrought with difficulty.

Right. Marshall

2 Afghan
1 Malaysia
1 France - means he needs a big card to control.

I’ve got 3 ops from Warsaw to give Europe support.

So the call is play Nasser for ops.

Event happens first
Immediate coup in Egypt

I need some military ops. I’m tempted with Warsaw Pact for 3 ops to place influence in France, but De Gaulle is still lurking. Lowering DEFCON means I can play into Pakistan more safely later.

Wow, it is nice to read the comments from people that has reached middle war more often than me…

To disagree with my own choice, after sleeping on it I’m now more tempted with Warsaw Pact to place an IP into Malaysia and 2 IP into France.

My thinking is that move will mean he needs two cards to control France, whilst giving me more security in Asia.

I can’t remember, how many military ops do I need this round? 4?

Depends on the Defcon. The lower the defcon, the lower the required mil ops

Any thoughts on my different plan?

Is there a downside to this new plan?

I’m not sure tbh

France influence can be countered by an event.

I’ll definitely be short of military ops unless I use Socialist Government as for a coup

I’ve gone for the new plan.

Every plan has a downside in this game, so I am going to just watch… but yes, go for it, I’d say

Big gamble this early, but play Vietnam Revolts, event first then co-op in Vietnam?
You’ll have more presents in Asia and if the dice are nice he won’t have any presents to built out from.

Edit: Presents, influence, whichever.

It makes sense to always consider the ‘required’ milops as 2. That’s just how it generally turns out, and you can force it anyway. So my advice is don’t worry too much about it.

Austria 0/3, E Germany 0/5, Poland 0/6

Space Duck & Cover roll 4, advance.

Thoughts? DEFCON at 4 means Nasser could be instantly couped back

I think CIA to coup Syria; even if he coups a battleground the Nasser play is still on.

Doesn’t matter. Middle East just got scored. You need to focus on Asia

Same thinking: ignore the Middle East. Go to Asia. The reason for the Nasser coup is nothing more than to get defcon down so that you can head into Pakistan without losing it to a China Card coup.

Ok, interesting.

If I go Nasser first and reduce DEFCON to 3 and he replies with a counter coup in a battleground then DEFCON goes to 2 then I’ll be left with no coup target for CIA. I’ll only have one military op this turn. Are you happy to give up an extra point now for board position?

Hi, I would like to join this epic battle for the future of the world (read: America remaining the top dog on the international stage).

And I wanted to start with the suggestion that you post the remaining cards in hand below the map (just names and ops is more than enough  ). That makes it much easier to follow this and think of strategies for the turn ahead.

Definitely

Cool, that’s a good idea. Only problem is that I don’t know how to do that! Benkyo is emailing me the images. He’s got a setup where it’s shrunk down so he can’t see my cards?

Is anyone able to take the original image of the cards and cross them off as they’re used? It would be useful. I

For now I have…
Nasser 1 op USSR
CIA 1 op US
Vietnam Revolts 2 ops USSR
Socialist Governments 3 ops USSR
De Stalinization 2 ops USSR
