The Crowdfunding Thread

I’m getting my Wonderlands War stuff this week - already have the game, just getting the expansion. Not that excited, thinking of selling it all. Or maybe selling the deluxe and keeping the retail version. It’s a decent enough game, just haven’t felt like playing it for a while now. Setup is a bit of a pain.

Current crowdfunding exposure is box 3 of Sentinels Definitive Edition, and String Railway. I don’t count the group purchase I signed up for here because I can’t remember what it is or when it’s due, so someone will ask me for some money at some point.

I have so many Kickstarters due this year… And I’m meant to be moving later in the year.

Dreading the transition haha

War for Arrakis (this Friday!) and Sol due very soon. Super excited! Though don’t think I’ll have time to play until Easter.

Bacon and Mori should be arriving soon, Age of Rails: Soth Africa to follow, then Haggis from the group purchase here

  • Sol: Last Days of a Star tomorrow or Fri (according to the email)
  • Allplay trick takers
  • Guards of Atlantis expansion
  • Age of Rails
  • Innovation Deluxe
  • Through the Desert
  • Railways of Lost Atlas (this I’m not sure about. If this is a 2 hour Euro-style 18xx. Cool. I can easily play with friends)
  • Haggis group pledge
  • Cascadero
  • Pax Illuminaten
  • String Railway
  • Huang
  • Old King’s Crown
  • Some 18xx and Ur 1830 BC from AAG
  • Hand mades from Golden Spike: 1832 South and 1850 Midwest - both by Bill Dixon

I swear I will slow down. I’m not super hot about Allplay’s small box games, even if they are my kind of thing as I already have games like these. So, if they keep pumping out trick takers and Knizia reprints…
And I think I hit the peak on 18xx consumption (but not play). At this point, the only ones I would buy would be 1841: Northern Italy and The Old Prince

I will remain unapologetic on consuming Cube Rails and trick takers for now

This may be the only one left on my “I’ll probably buy this 18xx game” list. I have way more than I need, and any new ones that come up, I’ll probably be looking to trade for instead.

  • All Aboard Games Wave 5 (shipping this month, supposedly)
    • 1822PNW
    • 18GB: The Railways of Great Britain

    • 18SJ: Railways in the Frozen North
    • 21Moon

  • Rallyman: DIRT (dead :frowning:)
  • Warehouse 13: The H.G. Wells Expansion (dead )
  • Merchants Cove: Master Craft (may ship in 2024; who knows – it’s already late and hasn’t even gone into production yet)
  • Cthulhu: Death May Die – Fear of the Unknown (may ship in 2024; who knows – it’s late, but at least this one has its files complete and is, allegedly, getting production samples)

I moved in the middle of KS delivery season last year. Just make lists … I was able to update every address except 1 and I was able to catch that and have it redirected by the last-mile guys.

Spirit Island Incarnate might be the last one I didn’t catch … I really don’t remember… but if I get a notification that it is on the way to the wrong address I might ask our tenants to just keep it for me until I can pick it up

Depending on how things go you might have to contact a few of the campaigns directly but even after addresses are usually locked changes are possible. Only when they are in the warehouse with the address on them then you have to wait until you get the delivery notification from DHL et al and try to catch it that way. I had a lengthy discussion with my partner on the complexity of identity verification when the campaign leaves the digital realm and crosses into the physical… … but as long as your moving date doesn’t become a moving target like ours did, it really shouldn’t be a problem.

The follow-up to Tetrarchia is gearing up for crowd-funding.

I haven’t spent much time perusing the information to date, but I’m certainly going to keep an eye on the campaign. If I decide I do want it, it will probably just come down to the shipping costs vs ordering from Draco later.

Mine said it was “sent today” and I have yet to be able to access the courier data to be able to delay it. Wish me luck.

Backed the reprint of Votes for Women after reading this article: Facebook bans ads for award-winning Votes for Women board game’s new Kickstarter, claims it is a “sensitive social issue” -

Apparently Facebook considers women’s suffrage to be a “sensitive political issue” and banned the campaign’s ads, which will cost the company tens of thousands of dollars in revenue.

That’s alarming. Possibly more of an issue in certain other countries, wonder if mollys house had similar issues although the title is less obvious. It’s a fun 2 player game but the theme does do a lot of the heavy lifting.

Got sol delivered today I backed the insert too and the black wood is noice.

I’m guessing it triggered a poorly constructed automatic moderation and rather than admit it was done in error, they just doubled down on it being a political issue

The inlay is so good! It’s a pity a few of my tray panels got damaged coming out of the frame (not enough room to fit a knife in, but too much connected to avoid some bad tearaways) but overall I was super impressed. Looks great once it’s all in place too.

I’m taking a punt on Crowd Sale: Tin Realm which is a solo game I’d already been curious about (or its predecessor, at any rate; I’m grabbing both). Their “Crowd Sale” concept is interesting – at the end of the sale, all the customers are charged whatever the price had finally dropped to based on how many people placed an order. They do assure you that you can cancel at any time before it’s over though, so I wonder whether the sales which don’t get so popular wind up seeing a ton of people cancelling at the end, and the price suddenly leaping up again for those who thought they were getting a better deal.

These “tin” games are sort of the micro versions of the same designer’s Iron Helm (and its large array of expansions), so this is a relatively cheap way to figure out if the systems appeal to me enough to consider ever shelling out money for those. (Although the very first game of theirs which caught my eye was Desolate, and the next time that goes on sale might prove tempting too.)
