I’ve basically given up on crowdfunding because I’m in the UK. I could pay maybe the whole cost of the game again in shipping, and get something early that is mostly unknown before any real reviews, or I could wait a small time and pay retail.
I’ll consider backing games if they aren’t ever going to retail, but shipping costs are a HUGE consideration these days.
Shipping to Australia generally sucks too. I’ve only got a couple of ks projects going, and half of them seem to be for tricktaking games. I do have a soft spot for CMON, and Cthulhu: Death May Die in particular.
Project L Phoenix (a near-freebie to existing backers and I got in on Project L near the beginning)
Next year:
Sentinels of the Multiverse: Disparation (only because of the shiny KS-bonus cards)
On the RPG side, I’m still waiting for the final PDF of Cthulhu Awakens (AGE system does Lovecraftiana), and that’s about it. As with SteveB_uk I find these days the Kickstarter usually costs significantly more than retail, and may not arrive much sooner.
Primal will be 2 years late which has become annoying. Wave 5 feels long compared to previous waves. I think they slowed down when Mr AAG did hand building of games or some such At least I’m not worries that they will deliver
I actually have some, although I can’t remember the names of all of them which is interesting.
The Barracks Emperor has shipped and I’m hoping arrives tomorrow Ticket to Ride Legacy I’m assuming will come before Christmas
A Norse mythology escape game which I’m quite excited about but shipping and taxes were far greater than I expected. Pies, Mori, Bacon and the other one probably early to mid 2024 Tricktakers and Haggis I’ve not even had the backer questionnaire yet, but they’re supposed to be mid 2024 as well
Yeah, reading between the lines Bolloré have stopped trying to find EU kickstarter backers and are now just selling off what stock they have left to game retailers (I saw a couple of copies at Essen). No word from whoever was meant to be importing the US copies.
Which is crazy from a UK perspective. Shipping costs in the USA are around 3-4 times what I’m paying in the UK (and thanks to Funagain closing after I’d advertised those increased shipping fees that was a cost I bore. Oof). For small-medium sized items it’s not that much more expensive to ship overseas from the UK than ship from within the USA.
I’m not totally convinced about the game, but it just looks like a really lovely thing. The components look beautiful, the box looks beautiful. And my partner, who loves wooden things, grew up in a suburb named Tawa (after a native NZ tree), which also ended up being where we bought our first house and lived for 14 years. I don’t think I can not back this.
