The Crowdfunding Thread

Yep

Also screams ‘deluxe edition’

I think it’s true that any given person has a maximum amount of money they’re willing and able to put into crowdfunding at any given time, but any given bigger project is likely to get new people into crowdfunding at all. I have been on KS for 10 years now and backed closing in on 500 projects of various scales because Double Fine got my attention back in 2012.

@yashima 25th Century Games can’t sell it en masse in Germany, if you want this version you’ll have to import it. The DiceTree one will be printed in Germany however.

Wait what? Ra? Meh Knizia and his weird contracts. I almost bought Whale Riders from some shop in Spain where I was surprised I could read the website—I don’t speak Spanish. So will I be able to back Ra on Gamefound at least? I mean… come on… the Dice Tree Korean version?

And PS: most of you will have seen it on BGG but I think it still worth mentioning: Ravensburger is investing 4 Million something ($$$?) in Gamefound. I think that’s an interesting move. Better than Asmodee doing the same in any case.

Asmodée would want total control or nothing, so they’ll probably build their own platform (or more likely buy one out completely, like BGA). I think a lot of people started looking at alternatives to Kickstarter after that “yay blockchain” post.

Yeah Ra, sorry. Presumably as a result of the Grail Games selling where they should debacle, 25th Century are being extra careful. I seems the Germanic world has been sold to DiceTree. I’ll be happy to facilitate getting a copy for you.

They’re not offering it in Germany at all, from the announcement thread on BGG:

Not every country. When we got involved a few countries were already taken in the EU: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Spain. So we can’t sell directly to consumers or retailers in those countries, but can the others.

Thanks for offering, I will see what happens with Gamefound. Since my sister lives in France I can possibly ask her to back it or just put in her address. She lives far away but there’s enough back and forth that I could get it that way. But it’s good to be aware of the “issue” beforehand. I’d rather know now than sit there wondering when the campaign launches or worse having decided to wait for retail see all my usual outlets not have it in stock.

That would definitely be a simpler solution

I saw it this morning. Interesting turn, I don’t think Ravensburger have ever dealt with crowdfunding, have they??

Interesting to see a company with that heritage move into a platform like that.

I saw them playing the pictured version on dice tower and it felt like they needed to print off some guides? This one seems to more clearly indicate what each piece does.

Yeah, I’ve printed mats for my current version. Really useful

Which pictured version? The top is, of course, the forthcoming one from 25th Century Games. The bottom picture shows both 1st and 2nd editions, from left to right.

Okay, I assumed that is what you meant, but wanted to be sure.

As was foretold… (meaning it was on “my list”), I backed the Tindaya Deluxe edition on Gamefound (Tindaya | Board Game | BoardGameGeek). This is the deluxe edition only. The retail edition is not being crowdfunded at all it seems. I am backing this on the strength of … hope.

In any case, this has potential as another big variable coop/solo (it has a vs mode I am not interested in much). It’s certainly more Euro-y and less card intensive than Spirit Island–which gets cited as a reference a lot because this takes place during the Spanish conquest of the Canary islands and you’re playing the locals (! not the gods this time, but the Dahan if you will). But from what I can tell it is a very different game. Sure there are islands and gods and conquistadores… but this is a game with pig farms and figs and resources…

I am 50% sure this is going to be my thing. I have a hard time telling. But it’s been a while since I did a big risky KS (Voidfall, last September). But it’s not that big and has the most reasonable shipping rates to Germany… (probably because they are importing to a German port). But you better not live in Brazil.

As a final point if it misses the mark, I’ve gotten pretty good at selling on games. If necessary, quickly.

Over on the RPG side:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/greenroninpub/cthulhu-awakens-roleplaying-game

Basically “Modern AGE tweaked for Lovecraftian investigation”. This is something I’ve already been playing with a bit and I’m glad to see it happen. Stretch goals are largely unimpressive (“a copy of this book you already have if you use the AGE system”), but with luck this means they can concentrate on the main business of the rulebook.

ETA: haven’t seen much of the project yet, but they’re trying to mitigate the intrinsic racism/etc., and getting away from the tired model of equating Mythos-shock with recognisable real insanity.

I am definitely keeping an eye on this one, it hits really close home not to get it.

I guess I’m a sucker for indie microgames, because this really caught my eye: Dinosauria the Microgame + Expansion + Poker Playing Cards by Microgameo — Kickstarter

The art is fantastic, and I really like the sustainability model of the production (i.e. only producing the cards, then asking you to provide coins and dice). I’m not sure how well the gameplay will hold up, but at the very least it’ll be an interesting curio, and I would like to see this new company keep making games in the future.
