The Crowdfunding Thread

I have heard a few horror stories of people having dings and defects from previous mayday kickstarters.

Also read a few stories of people buying it loving it and then selling it to upgrade and loving the upgrade more.

But £135 vs £260 is quite the price jump.

I have a MayDay board. It’s not an heirloom-quality board. But it is reasonably priced

The answer to all of these questions is yes, if you consider pitch car mini to be similar to crokinole

Saw the Crokinole KS, but cannot justify the price, and I have enough trouble trying to store my games that are in wonderfully stackable boxes, I don’t need the added complication of one of these.

The only thing that’s stopping me is not knowing how important the quality of the board is.

£74 is an incredibly low price for a board, and I guess if you love it you could always invest in an upgrade later?

Also yes, storage.

I mean, the people into these things will say the quality of the board is paramount, of course.

It also doesn’t strike me as the kind of thing that really gets a lot cheaper the more you sell?

So one thing that drives kickstarter purchases is FOMO but more recently I’ve got this feeling - looking at the price of Dinosaur Island Rawr and Write and Dinosaur World and my main regret is I wish I just paid the shop price.

Space Aces caught my eye. Not sure fully what to make of it but sometimes I think I’d like a genuinely narrative game. Any thoughts from anyone here?

Is Space Aces a narrative game or a choose-your-own-adventure style game (driven by which hexes and random encounter tables)?

I am always leery of any game that leans on its humor:

  • SPACE LOOT: Hundreds of pieces of weird gear, rare resources, starship upgrades that go “ding” when there’s stuff, and more to find.
  • A TOWEL GENERATOR: Because every space adventurer needs a towel.
  • CHUCKLES GALORE: More inside jokes, nerdy references, bad puns, and heartfelt homages than you can shake a non-copyright-infringing light sword at.

Most gamers aren’t nearly as funny as they think they are.

Whereas I know I am hilarious. If underappreciated.

Especially since this one describes itself as “slightly zany”…

I can be funny with a snarky quip or two, but I can’t tell a joke (neither could my parents and my mom is especially bad).

Evolution: New World by CrowD Games — Kickstarter

I’m curious on this one. Significant changes compare to the old one.

EDIT: gonna wait for retail

Wow, looking into it, you could draw an evolutionary tree of Evolution games …

Is this the one they claim to be the anniversary edition of? Or is there an even earlier one? I recognize some of the elements in Oceans… I had previously thought that that line of evolution games was independent of that green box of horrors. But BGG informs me otherwise. (Don‘t tell my partner)

I hope that if they remake that 2010 game that they put some work in to fix the issues that game had (mostly runaway victory issues)

Looks like it! Oceans is the spin-off

Just remembered that I had most of my KS and Gamefound backing shipping to my work address (as there is people here 24/7), so I am going thorugh the motions of changing the shipping details. Gamefound makes it really easy, but boy, can it be tricky with KS. At least nearly everybody has answered quickly to my messages.

Same! Interestingly, from investigating this, I found there’s apparently a game called “Nature” on the way that updates Evolution to make Flight and Climate work together.

As someone who loves Evolution, didn’t care for Flight, and never tried Climate, my reaction to this is approximately:

Good god, £300 for the all-in pledge. Nope, misread it… £455 for the all-pledge! Holy moley!

I mean, who is going to pay that? Surely it won’t get funded… never mind. £5,266,868
so far…

EDIT: “Note that VAT will also be charged on the Pledge Manager system for EU and UK backers.”

What the ever living…
