Leaving Earth (Base Game and Mercury) Pbf

Whilst @RogerBW decides when he wants rendezvous, let’s get the French testing underway.

Spend $2 on a probe, attach to the top of the two stage atlas and reach for the skies!

First stage success (Pay 10 to remove)
Second stage, minor failure (Pay 5 To remove.)

The second stage splashes harmlessly into the Pacific.

Unbolting the probe from the failed mission, purchase another two atlas and attempt to relaunch. ($10)

Success!

We have our first Satellite, the small survey vessel Asterix*

Transfer completed Atlas tech to @yashima

Purchase surveying for $10, survey solar radiation…

Success, removed for free.

Spend remaining money on Atlas and 3 Juno’s.

@pillbox

*I always used terribly generic names for French satellites. It gave me great pleasure to find out the real CNES did the same. Asterix really was the first French satellite.

Might as well do both; I don’t think it costs any more. (I think that’s possible: you give me a 3-outcome advancement card now, and at some later point you might give me a 0-outcome which I can use to replace mine. Or indeed the other way round.) It may well be that I have spare payload capacity for some probes at some point…

3x independent single-Juno launch, removing all outcomes as they arise. Remainder of my turn relies on the money remaining after testing is complete.

Success! $10 to remove.
Major Failure $5 to remove.

No money remaining. Please can everyone confirm they are done with the year by rolling a d8. (Or do whatever they want to first.)

@pillbox asked for a die roll:
d8: 7

@yashima asked for a die roll:
d8: 6 says yashima because the signs are short

@RossM asked for a die roll:
d8: 8 The French are coming.

@RogerBW asked for a die roll:
d8: 6 for the inevitable triumph of the proletariat

@RogerBW and @yashima reroll for turn order please.

(In future I could do these rolls if people want?)

@RogerBW asked for a die roll:
I’d be quite happy with that. (And/or we could d1000000: 98507 for less chance of a clash. Maybe one day I’ll write a “shuffle” functionality into the add-on.)

For now, d8: 2

(Just realised your roll a d8 as the only die in the game. Fair point.)

(The cost to include a d100000 in the box for turn order was just too exorbitant)

Good morning everyone, sorry for the delay but we had to celebrate my dad’s 76th bday last night. Just a tiny party of three

Anyway, being first in the turnorder isn’t really that attractive at this point. I have to think so much about what I want to do.

So ISAS :jp: would like to start by shopping:

  • 3 Probes = $6

After shopping I’ll pass and wait for my turn to come around again.

@RogerBW: I now have a combined payload of 3. I was wondering if you were going to keep testing your Saturns? If so you might just as well take up the payload (at risk of me losing it in case of a major failure). I am sure we can figure out some kind of deal. I plan to commence Rendezvous testing up there.

For @RossM: a thing I would find useful, though I realise TTS wouldn’t make it easy, would be a count of the outcome cards on each advancement as part of that display.

yashima: A single Saturn can lift 5 mass to LEO, and since we are continuing to collaborate on rendezvous I’ll be happy to loft those three if we share the benefit of the testing.

(In a strict game-technical sense it’s not possible to share ownership of a spacecraft: so you give me the probes, I launch, I give you the cluster of three probes in orbit if it gets there.)

If you’re happy with that I’ll stick three probes on a Saturn single-stage to LEO, removing any outcome. Next action will depend on the result of that.
