Last game you DIDN'T buy?

D&D The Legend of Drizzt. It has been 3 days on sale in Facebook here in NZ, still in shrink, and I have been strong. As much as I loved the first 9 or 10 books of the series when they came out, I think I have enough dungeon dwelling games.

This is probably the wrong thing to say in this thread, but the publisher (Osprey Games) has the best shipping rates I’ve seen (especially if you want three or more things), and they also have good sales from time to time. You should definitely consider buying direct.

There’s also bookdepository, which often carries Osprey games cheaply.

But London 2e is an easy pass for me too. The only reason I might buy it is because it’s cheap, and that stopped being a reason to buy games for me quite a long time ago.

I’ve also seen bookdepository advertising ostensibly cheaper prices for Osprey games, but the total cost has always been markedly higher once the shipping is added. YMMV, but possibly only if you were also getting a really great deal on delivery.

Yeah, bookdepository’s “free worldwide shipping” is not, but it is usually a good deal for us far away people.

The price has dropped 10 bucks, and I am still holding out. The sweats…

I really must play some more Ravenloft…

I’ve avoided hitting my FLGS recently because they got Lawyer Up in. Worse, they got the expansion cases. This would be an excellent addition to my collection of 2P games but I’m presently especially wary of rules overload with my partner. I think, for now, I’ll continue to wait. Probably.

[EDIT] God I’m weak.

I had the weirdest dream last night about playing Mysterium Park on top of a building while a storm was howling and tentacles were grabbing for the cards…

Does this mean I should stay away from the game?

Yes you are but I saw the Dice Tower review and I admit to being tempted by this one. Luckily it won’t be easily available here  (this comment is made purely so it summons some copies to a place nearby)

Got you covered, Railroad Ink with the Weather and Tentacle expansions.

This Lost Ruins of Arnak game keeps popping up everywhere I look. Almost bought it many times but keep stopping. Something just feels off about it every time I read up on it, but then I’ll read stuff great about it and the cycle continues.

Not exactly in line with the topic, but my pledge for Harsh Shadows was supposed to arrive today and didn’t. It ended up in a completely wrong part of the city, and I’m not sure how long it’ll take for the error to correct itself. I was able to ease the pain with a purchase of the Venom hero pack for Marvel Champions, though, so not a complete loss.

Arnak can be played on BGA if you just want to try it. The scripting helps a lot with the rules learning. To me it felt like a generic Euro with deck building elements and some worker placement and Terra Mystica style action stringing aka “keep your turn going for as long as possible” (thanks @Acacia). A good one and if a certain other game had not come out around the same time, I might have jumped for it. As it is the generic archeology theme just didn’t cut it for my collection. But I am happily going to play it if/when friends buy it.

The game I didn’t buy (this time) was Too Many Bones. Thanks forum  You made me do it. Well, not do it. As far as I can tell Chip Theory keeps reprinting it because it is so popular. So no FOMO for now and the price is something else. But it’s not off the list yet. Maybe after our move next year when all that storage space becomes available and more space outside as well to play it in the rain

Gaia Project has a 30% discount on Game Kings. And I have bought too many games lately.

Plus, I don’t think I will be able to play it any soon.

Logging another Lost Ruins of Arnak didn’t buy. I was tempted, but it came down to three things:

  • I’d pegged it as a “Gaia Project Lite” due to the action chaining and resource conversion endless turn thing, and thought it would replace Clans of Caledonia. However, after three plays I decided Clans is quite charming. Not a blockbuster, but I want to keep it. So the slot kind of disappeared.

  • Concurrently, got to play Paladins of the West Kingdom which is also an action chaining resource conversion endless turn thing. And, I think it’s better? Fiddly and more complex, certainly, but better.

  • Lastly, after two plays on BGA I’m worried about Arnak’s legs for the long run. Yes, I have enough games that I could play it only occasionally and keep it fresh, but I’d rather have a collection where I play ten games hard for a few months and then rotate on, not where I browse each thing once a year. Despite the ostensible variability, both my games felt very similar and based on what I see in the game, I think it’ll stay that way. Kind of like Raiders of the North Sea which is another game I wrote off. Yes, variable card market and variable set up, but all the variation seems to land you at the exact same place.

Gaia Project is like Catcher in the Rye. If you see a copy, you have to buy it. Nothing else matters.

I managed to not buy Civilization: A New Dawn (or whatever that latest iteration is called) and the latest expansion which apparently finally makes this into a great game. Somehow I managed to convince myself that having just bought Imperium Classics and Civilization being in print in German and English, I do not need it… right now.
