First Maths Trade winnings to arrive. Excited about this one and definitely something I’ll play more than Undaunted North Africa, which may be a better game but I just wouldn’t have gotten to the table.
I think my friend got your Undaunted.
Did you send it to Cardiff?
No. Went to somewhere in England.
It was NIS. A Christmas present I just knew I wouldn’t play.
Riftforce is here!
So yeah it’s a two player game with no authorised digital implementation and my wife isn’t for the most part a gamer.
But it’s here, over three months earlier than the original KS estimate.
It’s on Tabletopia!
Tabletopia, home of “sure, you can play on your phone, but we can’t allow you to use a Linux desktop”.
(I did offer to make them a TTS version; they decided they’d rather have it just in one place.)
Things happened. To land in my shopping basket. I need to stop reading/watching reviews. I feel completely unable to stick to the “shop less” paradigm I put up at the beginning of this year.
So… I am expecting another package next week. Containing games I won’t even be able to play anytime soon: Sidereal Confluence (Spacebiff’s fault, I had almost convinced myself not to buy it) and Hansa Teutonica (everyone’s fault but also SUSD). And neither includes a solo mode or two player.
Not up for a 8-handed solo playthrough in realtime?
I do admit that I plan on setting up something somehow just to see what it might end up being like. but please don’t tell anyone ![]()
There’s a good deal on eBay UK for SidCon. I must admit it is tempting
I ordered the Star Wars rebellion expansion (after some advice on here) and the KS **Iwari ** From Zatu a while back. I got an e-mail from Zatu that they couldn’t fulfill my Iwari order so we’re refunding next and just shipping the Star Wars rebellion exp.
Fine.
The. The Zatu parcel arrived today. The box was bone dry but the sealed game box inside was wet. The box and instructions have seen better days but the game bits seem fine. Got a partial refund. And it’s all going into the main box so no great loss.
I’m just trying to convince myself that the -1 game bought from my Iwari refund can stay that way.
The expansion is excellent. Really cleans up combat
Last week I was thinking about getting the Legend of the Five Rings clan packs I don’t have. Then they bloody well announce its cancelled!!!
So what do I do now? Buy buy buy? Wait for bargain basement prices and hope the ones I need are cheap? I DON’T KNOW
Judging from Netrunner’s death, it’s probably best to buy now.
Certainly I got a lot of Ashes stuff when they announced the death of that - prices started to drop almost at once, and I have everything except the promos.
(Now they’re bringing out the new edition of course, but I got this basically for playing with my mates rather than with any thought of being competitive.)
With Netrunner the standard packs dropped in value, but the big packs maintained value/shot up. With L5R, the clan packs are enough of a beacon to draw interest, especially among clan favourites.
I’ve decided to just buy them, I expect some will be found for cheap prices, but predicting which ones will be easy to find and which ones will be hens teeth is anyone’s guess. Rather have a full set than save some money with some holes I guess!
Of the standard packs I only have the first 2 cycles, and feel happy with that. I’ll leave the other cycles unless they’re silly prices.
I was tempted by the Ashes reboot, but think I’ll wait for Summoner Wars first. Building quite a collection of these 1v1 card games now
Despite the 3-5p labelling, I’d be surprised if they’ve actually excised the 2p rules from the manual; however if that’s the case, then you can find them in the files section here:
(Britannia being the expansion which introduced the improved 2p rules, but you can use them with any map.)
This is how I play most of my games of Hansa Teutonica, so I say give it a whirl!
I have been aware of the 2-player variant found in Britannia (and playable with any of the maps) since before I received my copy of the Big Box. It seems fine enough. People on BGG seem to viscerally despise it (perhaps this or a different 2-player variant signed them up for a pyramid scheme or something? It’s hard to understand how vehemently some people decry this variant).
I (almost*) always avoid playing a game for the first time with a 2-player variant that requires a dummy player.
The 2p variant in Among the Stars (yes, with dummy players) is pretty terrible.
When Britannia came out (but before it was available locally) I did a bunch of reading about the new 2p rules (this thread for instance), and I never saw a bad word against them. The original 2p rules definitely have a bad rep, but by my recollection people were generally enthusiastic about the newer variant.
I think everyone would agree that 3+ players is better, and I can completely understand people preferring to play something else at 2p, but personally I’ve always had an enjoyable time with HT at 2p. If people are disparaging it as severely as you suggest, it sounds pretty OTT to me.
