Have you got any experience of playing Architects 2 player? My collection is light on worker placement, and I play mostly 2 player (though semi-often with 4). I’m after one a game which works well with both player counts, without the two player being too naff.

Sadly no: I have only played it alone although a couple of times playing two-handed as separate players to get the hang of it. However, it did seem to play very well just with two, plus the game has rules for using the automata bot versus a solo player or against two players, making for a three player game. Unlike in some worker placement games, the bot doesn’t just block spaces - notably because there are very few spaces to block in Architects… - but acts against you often enough in terms of capturing your players or snatching apprentices or cathedral rewards away from you. Their scoring method also means that, especially with the harder bot Helena, a victory over the bot is far from guaranteed.

I will add though that I am hoping to introduce some games to non-gaming friends next weekend, and while it might be too soon to show them Architects…, if they enjoy the first few games I might get to sample it with them at a later meeting. Ah: social gatherings? Anyone remember them? They are so 2019!

I’ve played Architects once and it was at 2-players. I really enjoyed it! I felt as though the game itself deserved to be fleshed out some more. There were huge swaths of the design that I felt were a little flat and unexplored. Even still: the tension of pushing your luck with placing just one more worker on a spot to see if your opponent will bin the whole lot is just great. I can imagine I might even like the game less at 3 or 4.

Just caught up with Friday’s podcast and the last two games mentioned, Oriflamme and New York Zoo, piqued my interested. Went to add them to my wishlist and discovered I could get them for ~Ā£10 and ~Ā£30 respectively, so into the basket they went.

Threw in the 2-player expansion for Great Fire of London 1666 as well.

I’ve played Architects at 2 player a couple of times, it’s been a while however. It’s more exciting with 4 players but it works well enough at two. I mean the solo mode is basically a 2 player game with a simulated second player.

Thanks for all the thoughts on Architects. Will definitely add it to the ā€œwill buy when feeling too weak to resistā€ list.

Due to the fact that my new Visa wasn’t revised in my GMT account, my P500 order for All Bridges Burning was never shipped. That has been rectified as of this afternoon.

Also, I’ve ordered a copy of Fields of Glory. :sunglasses:

Just as an FYI. The latest update on oath was released on Kickstarter today. I apparently was wrong the late pledges doesn’t close until Nov. 30th.

Just incase my mis-info put you off.

Thanks for the update, but I’m staying away mostly because I’m just off buying games for the foreseeable. Lots of factors, not least including our current situation.

Very sensible. Can I borrow some of that common sense next Kickstarter I see.

Strictly speaking I bought this pile of games ~3 months ago during a sale; but on account of the release dates for two other items in the order being bumped over and over and over again (until I finally gave up and requested that they send everything else), I have just received, unboxed, unwrapped, punched out, bagged up, etc…

  • Because of SUSD reviews:
    • Mandala!
    • 6 Nimmt!
    • Go Cuckoo!
  • Because I’d played it before:
    • Get Bit!
  • Because I liked something about it and took a punt:
    • Ecosystem!
    • Elevenses for One!
  • Because of you lot:
    • Nusfjord!

Fun fact: Almost half of these titles actually have an exclamation mark.

One of those games also took rather more time than all of the others combined to attend to. (No prizes for guessing which that was.)

I’ll let you know the next time I’m in a board game shop and see literally any board game. :eyes:

Nemesis is in my trembling, clammy, paranoid hands. Oooooh, it feels right sitting on my shelf, probably infesting my other games.

Just acquired Acquire for £10.

More for the regret of selling it after one play.

It’s a 1968 edition, so the oldest game in my collection by a long margin.
