My P500 copy of Commands & Colors: Medieval – Expansion #1 Crusades Mid-Eastern Battles I, a name that appears to have many levels of subtitles involved, arrived.
I used the CDG Solo System to play C&C:M during the CDG #2 playtest. If I’m going to play a war game, I prefer them to be (or model) ancient or, at least, pre-gunpowder battles – because I prefer the tactics better (I’m pretty sure. Who knows for certain).
So I backed the P500 so that I wouldn’t run out of content. The base box comes with 19 scenarios (and, oddly, fewer than 19 battles depicted). The expansion comes with an additional 20 scenarios (and, again, fewer than 20 battles depicted). That’s, honestly, a lot of content.
I haven’t even read about the new troop types in C&C:M-E#1CM-EBI, but I’m excited for the variety. When I play historical conflict games, part of the fun is researching the history of what lead up to the battle.
However… I’m feeling a bit weird about this particular box; there are 6 troop overview player aids- you use two depending on which armies are involved. But regardless of the scenario, one side is always the Crusaders.
I’ve also bought some solo rpg books and adventures, so hope to try them out on longer evenings in. These include Ironsworn: Starforged, Scarlet Heroes, some 5E solo adventures to test out the new D&D 2024 rules, and the Solo Adventurer’s Toolbox
I doubt I will get round to attempting my annual “12 Gamedays of Christmas” challenge this season as I’ll be too busy with tourist arrivals over Christmas and New Year. As a replacement, in the new year I will be attempting what I’m calling “Try January”, where I attempt to play all of my unplayed games and major expansions over the month. I think there’s 10 or 12 to play, possibly less if I get one of these newer titles to the table beforehand.
Great Plains is my new arrival. Cheers to @Acacia for putting this one on my radar a while back. I don’t know yet how it’s going to fare with my partner – I know a couple of folks here have moved it along on account of their other half not enjoying the puzzle – but it certainly appeals to me :).
