This is my one beef with the game. I’ve got the whole shebang, and with breaking warband boxes down to about 2.5x2.5x4 inches (I like the artwork) , the two cores and all champs still take up almost exactly one Gloomhaven. I’m guessing once the shine has worn off for me and my kiddo, I’ll move the minis into an art box, and condense to one core box. I don’t think I can get away with what I did for X-Wing…
My real concern is once I knuckle down and paint them. No way they’ll be tossed all haphazardly into little clusters like I’ve done now (basically the champs are a few per compartment, minions and banners are all playing barrel full of monkeys with one another). Should be easy enough to just add in some trays though so I think the big bin holding it all will actually work out ok on the long term and accept at least a few expansions, etc. (currently have 9 teams - 2x starters and 5 expansions).
Personally, I won’t be content until @pillbox owns ALL THE GAMES!
2.7 times for each game obviously
No, just for a fifth of them, and 1.4 times for another fifth.
Just get half of every game, and combine them.
Late last week, I had a BGG Auction win come in: Titanium Wars. I once heard (I think) the SUSD crew refer to a game as “too French” and I definitely feel that may be the case here. I’m not sure whether I should embrace the theme/setting or question it; some sort of space-fantasy-steampunk amalgamation. The art is very pleasing but it just seems all over the place. We’ll have to see how this one fares; it did arrive with the expansion which makes 1v1 and 2v2 modes possible (otherwise it’s a very limiting 3-4 player game which really have no place on my shelf at such a narrow player count range).
Additionally, yesterday was my birthday and my partner (despite occasionally asking me, “Do we really need more games?”) surprised me with The Isle of Cats (which when she saw our FLGS post on Facebook about a few months ago, she said to me, “Of all the games you buy on Kickstarter, why wasn’t this one of them?”) and Gaia Project (which should sufficiently quell my curiosity about Terramystica/GP for good; it’s been quite a wildcard on my wishlist for a while – by the sounds of it, they are mostly fungible and I think I prefer the art style of Gaia Project significantly more).
Additionally, my dad is prone to drop-shipping things directly off of my wishlist, so Cartographers and Baseball Highlights 2045 - Grand Slam Expansion Bundle Thing both arrived via Amazon courier earlier this week, but I didn’t open them until yesterday.
And, perhaps to your disappointment, my purchasing will necessarily slow down as my partner and I just had our offer accepted on a new house, that will (even with the current insanely-low interest rates) double our mortgage payment; it’ll also double our finished living space (2000 sqft up to 4400 sqft – I never thought I’d have a house that enormous!), so while I may not be buying a lot more games, I will certainly finally have ROOM for the ones I already have (along with a dedicated gaming space).
Congratulations, and good luck! (And the gaming table thread is over →→→ there.)
No, you will just have to hunt better bargains. You’ll still buy all the games. It is unavoidable. It is your destiny.
Another great thing about the new house is there will be space for me to setup my woodworking shop, too. So ideally I’ll be building my own gaming table (and hopefully saving thousands of dollars by doing so, assuming I have enough skill)
I liked this one and may someday attempt to do similar. He pays more than $150 though, for higher quality materials. He has a follow up video about 5 changes he would make.
Happy birthday and congratulations on the house upgrade!! And wow! (I just converted square feet to square meters and my jaw just dropped).
Having a dedicated game den and all, you’re living the dream! One day, when you have finally moved, we have to see a picture of those stacks on your shelves. They have to be huge!
Yes, the housing stick parts of ‘murica is huge compared the the UK.
I’ve lived in studio flats smaller than some gaming rooms in the US.
I found a place online (and domestic!) selling the official base ring set for Godtear. I don’t expect it would have been hard to source some cheaper, but these are the right size and quantity with zero hassle, so there you go. Just a shame they’re black and white.
I’m hopeful for 18New England. It’s at least an attempt at doing something a little different with incremental capitalisation and seems more engineer focussed. Maybe 18Mex is an operations one as well?
A Quiet Year just showed up in the mail. I’ve been playing it with youth groups for years, but never had a physical copy.
There’s a few interesting solo RPGs that have been reviewed recently in the SUSD site that have me really on the edge of going for the buy. One Thousand Year Old Vampire and Artefact are clear favourites, but A Quiet Year is close behind… Decisions, decisions…
Quiet year is great with groups. I’m looking forward to trying it solo. TYOV has been really satisfying, but your mileage may vary depending on your endurance for creative writing, and your willingness to cede control of a narrative. There’s a great conversation about those issues in the most recent SUSD podcast.
Found one copy left of Forgetten Waters at the local FLGS including the pre-order promo, which I missed on account of crazy shipping to Canada. Have heard nothing but stellar things about it since so can’t wait to dig in.
I just bought a copy of power rangers heroes of the grid on eBay for a pretty good price. Thinking it’s one I can play with the kids.
