No idea what edition my local guy stocks, though it’s worth noting my base copy of FCM was a couple editions old.
The problem with BGG auctions is that most of them are US only, and only a small fraction of them bother to tell you that in the title.
A lot of Americans forget that there are people in other places in the world. If the auction doesn’t say specifically US-only, I would suggest sending a message or commenting on the list asking about international.
And, as always, I’m willing to be a forwarding agent for you, though I really don’t know if you’d be better off with somebody on the west coast (I don’t know if it makes a difference) – when I bought from Japan, it cleared customs in New York
Wait a minute.
There are other places in the world?
The deuce you say?
So long story short, we got a second copy of Greedy Granny, which I swear is a good thing as one can go to therapy and not stress what happens to it, too much.
Upon closer inspection the new copy is vastly superior the then the original.
The spinner is hard plastic (opener is hard paper)
The snacks are bigger and more detailed, and the Granny’s sweater is textured.
The original was at target, © 2020 the other Amazon, bit looks like it came from Canada©2018
Quelle surprise! It’s pillbox back with more cardboard!
I really couldn’t pass up the Deal of the Day at one of my favorite OGS’s: Ride the Rails w/ expansion for less than the Capstone-direct pre-order. I just wish the expansion fit in the dang box. Oh well.
Obviously if you’re going to order from an OGS, you have to hit their free-shipping threshhold! So also included in the shipment was Modern Art (finally picked up a copy! It’s the latest printing of the CMON edition), and Aerion. I was pretty cold on Onirim after playing the app version of it. Aerion looks much more interesting to me, I hope it pans out.
Now my games are nicely organised and I even managed to pick out some to get rid of, it’s obviously time to buy more! Grabbed Crossing and the Age of Thieves expansion for about £10 each.
Crossing for a tenner? Lucky!
I won an auction for a Korean game called Mirror Garden. It was a game that I tried from Essen. I thought it was novel and not worth buying. But this guy was selling it cheap, and cheap I got it.
The game is about replicating a circular garden pattern that is randomly drawn from the deck. You try to bend your mirror on an angle on your personal garden cards, adjusting the angle of the mirror and the placement of your garden cards until you exactly replicate it. Pretty nifty.
I very much doubt its longevity in my collection but I just want to show it to my friends. I want to show how cool it is, the same way I was charmed by it when I tried it last year in Essen.
I heard about this recently and I am so intrigued to hear how you feel about it. It definitely sounded like something very fun and cool to have, but I am very curious about longevity.
I discovered that Steve’s Collectibles has an Amazon store as well as eBay. The selection is quite random, but there’s some definite bargains there.
Due to the fact that it was printed in the PRC, War Room didn’t ship with historically accurate stickers for the WW2 Chinese Kuomintang government. Nightingale Games had correct sets printed in the USA and offered them free of charge to initial purchasers. My set just arrived and it looks darn good.
I got the Dune expansion and the Cosmic Encounter Duel in the mail this week
I haven’t even managed to play a full game of Dune yet… I know but… but… I will.
Cosmic Duel has a wobbly wobble cat thingy… I haven’t read the rules yet but it seems important I’ll post pictures as soon as we manage to play.
Keen to know how duel plays. Love cosmic but wasn’t convinced duel would hold up. Please please please post impressions.
I hope we’ll get to it this week-end. Not many other plans
18Ireland was added to my 1822. Hoping this’ll be the last thing for a while but I’ve said that many times before
18Ireland is also on order for me.
The only other AA Games 18xx I might be interested in is 1849, but it looks very restrictive.
I feel like liking your posts is only encouraging you to buy more.
But I can’t stop myself.
I sort of have an impression of a lot of these AAG titles being fairly financial side things. 18Ireland and 18New England being the exceptions, plus from the Wheel Tapping, 1822.
Did you here the Lonny Orgler interview on Wheel Tapping? He was interesting about the more financial side of games. He used a quote “I can’t win 1830, all I can do is lose it”. It was interesting as I’ve found the most vocal 18xx evangelists I’ve stumbled on are more financiers so I’d assumed that was a more widely held view than I should have.
I’ve noticed the same; I feel as though there’s really two genres called “18xx” with some amount of crossover between the financier-camp and the engineer-camp.
Unfortunately, I’ve fallen behind on my podcasts but I’m looking forward to that one.
I’m about 75% thorough my first 18Chesapeake game (with the folks here in the 18xx thread via 188xx.games) and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be the only Peterson title that’ll be added to my collection (and only because I already own it).
Godtear came in today, and even knowing it’d be a biggin, the size of the box still surprised me. I’ve condensed the whole thing into a partitioned, 4L Really Useful Box, with the boards on their own and a conundrum on my hands with regard to the tokens and tiles. I’ve got a bin to hold everything in, but anything else I use will mess with the packing efficiency so I think I’ll just bag the rest for now until I can add a few extra trays to fit.
I really haven’t given any of it much of a look yet, but the mountain of cardboard boxes and inserts needed to go ASAP.
