I’m not entirely sure what’s there to entice current owners into switching over. @RogerBW, any insights? I mean, for me the art changes probably would have been enough. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@Lordof1 may be a better person to ask because I’ve only played ā€œoldā€ Sentinels once, virtually, while he’s played it quite a bit. But the impression I get:

  • yes, you no longer have early artwork by a guy who’s learning his trade (actually I care more about the better graphic design which makes it easier to parse a card quickly);
  • some effort to streamline the rules, particularly with prowords replacing card text (e.g. ā€œdiscover a cardā€ rather than ā€œsearch your deck for this card and put it into playā€);
  • some effort to get the ā€œslowā€ heroes up and running more quickly, so that you may play fewer turns overall but they’re the fun ones;
  • tighter thematic integration for heroes rather than ā€œbag of powersā€.

Asking for a certain Lord. :kissing_heart:

[EDIT] Lemme beef this post up a little. I’ve been thinking about Sentinels since I put it down for the night last night. I’m finding the [application of] theme incredibly satisfying, which is something I kind of expected, but not to this degree.

I haven’t bought anything in a few weeks since my last post, but a pre-order-held OGS order came in.

War of the Ring: The Fate of Erebor – a good price for a pre-order of this rather small expansion, which held up everything else

Res Arcana: Perlae Imperii – another expansion for a game I haven’t yet played. Yet I feel as though the pearls probably should have been included from the beginning, so I expect to use this expansion right away just as soon as I can get a game night scheduled with my ex-neighbor.

Colt Express: Bandits – Belle/Cheyenne/Django/Doc/Ghost/Tuco – these were at a huge discount at one of my preferred OGS, so I opted to pick them all up. Mostly, I’m looking to leverage these to make 2-player Colt Express more interesting. In order to learn them, I might just play solo with all of the bandits and see how that goes; I’m not even sure it’s possible, but I can try, right?

Officially it’s completely disallowed. But I’ve done it (playing as the Marshal) and I thought it worked pretty well.

Roger has basically summed it up. I have the huge black box of doom with absolutely everything in it and I don’t think it’s sufficiently different to justify getting it all over again honestly. There’s mild changes and balancing changes and the new version is a little tighter but the actual experience of play is effectively identical, honestly.

It’s made me want to dig out my old box again honestly but not sure I want to get the new version again other than FOMO (which is a depressingly powerful motivator!).

What’s the fourth game? Dream Factory, High Society?

High Society but Dream Factory would fit too, dammit.

Off to BGG

The first of my maths trade games arrived today: Tokyo Highway. I’m not sure that the box could look any more boring :laughing:
Also waiting for Praise, Loot, and Kittin.

It’s starting to be the ideal nber of Knizia auction games I need is n+1 where n is the current number I have.

Dream Factory looks interesting with the closed economy, and copies are reasonably priced

Still waiting for a few Maths trade to come in but I manage to trade off some games and I’m only making a small backslide in my gaming goal for this year, so that is a success

  • Homesteaders - haven’t arrived yet
  • Age of Civilization - played it and enjoyed it as a big game in a small box. Needs more plays
  • Mini FITS - Knizia
  • Dune - the old Dune that was reprinted a few years ago
  • Genesis - a tile-laying Knizia that I played and was keen on having. This is going into the collection.
  • De Vulgari Eloquentia: Deluxe Edition - heavy Euro that I might chuck out after at least a couple of plays but geekbuddies seems to like it
  • Kyoto - negotiation game. Pleasantly surprised that it’s a small box game actually.

Bought (damaged)

  • Wits and Wagers: It’s Vegas Baby A trivia game as some friends expressed an interest in a games night (crush damage, 25% off OLGS selling price)

  • Irish Gauge I regret selling this, so repurchased

  • Iberian Gauge Amabel Holland does trains with Ian O’Toole art and Capstone production

The Gauges are 10% off for a minor ding on the box.

Ack, more Unmatched goodness. Restoration Games just put up the Jurassic Park: Sattler vs. T-Rex on their store, but for a bit extra, you can get a promo:

Stupid no uk shipping. Arg!

Yeah, unfortunately RG can only ship to US and Canada, and even then, with this set, due to some licensing issues, they can’t even do Canada.

Hopefully managed to get a US-UK Facebook shipment group to order me a copy. Fingers crossed.

Oh balls. I had Polynesia and its expansion map on a wish-list and I got email that they were on sale at a really good discount, so I popped them into my shopping cart and went browsing the rest of the sale, and by the time I was done they’d sold them to someone else.
