Amazing! I also have my MB A&A box, but that’s it from this series. Other childhoold holdovers are Torpedo Run and the first printing of Fireball Island (giant, single piece board in a giant box).

Ah, I’ve considered getting Torpedo Run as well, but as of yet have withstood it, though it still lingers in the back of my mind as a thing I need to have

I know I wouldn’t actually use it, but we all have dreams!

I played Shogun, which is why I am playing the shogun game on the forum - I thought it was the same game!

And I have, but have never played a Buck Rogers game by TSR. Is that the one? A second hand purchase probably 25 years ago!

Yep. That’s the one I linked. Based on a BGG search, it would appear that before there was Cthulu, there was Buck Rogers.

Lorraine Williams brought with her to TSR control over the rights to Buck Rogers (inherited from her grandfather John F. Dille, president of the National Newspaper Service syndicate in the 1920s); TSR produced both the boardgame and an RPG. I don’t know whether they were successful; they weren’t popular among people I knew at the time.

My high school gaming club had most of these games, and I played most of them. Buck Rogers was not all that good. No Broadsides or Conspiracy, but all of the others. I own A&A and Fortress America out of the lot, and agree that FA was the best of them.

I wish I still had access to that game collection, but unfortunately the teacher who ran the club left and all the games were apparently sold/donated years ago. I would have loved to nab the 1st edition Fury of Dracula!

Legacy of Dragonholt might push your definition of “light and quick”, but it is a good, story-driven narrative style board game that’s lighter on rules and more focused on story. It’s sorta… choose your own adventure RPG-lite? It’s good.

A Tale of Pirates is a little sillier and more expensive, but is a very good worker-placement co-op with some lovely narrative elements. Plus, big 3D pirate ship that you get to load cannons and adjust sails… honestly, it’s almost as much fun as a toy as it is a game. I’ve only played the first two missions (multiple times each) due to rotating gameplay groups in the BeforeTimes, but it’s worth a look.

Oh, and the new Welcome To… the Moon technically has a campaign with some branching “narrative” elements which is kinda neat, but it’s competitive… but it’s not super in-your-face competitive (moreso than the original, because there is now a mechanic that will let you mess with your opponents a tiny bit).

I now realise I don’t have enough games with a 3d pirate ship (all I have is Riff Raff)

Not bought, but acquired: My mum and step-dad just came to visit, so we finally had Christmas pt 2. Amongst my gifts were Brian Boru and Disney Villainous: Evil Comes Prepared (which includes Rattigan, Scar, and Yzma).

I was looking at Seasons, lots of good reviews. It was on Amazon for about $50 (AUD), I decided to think about it, and the price went up to about $60. And then I saw it in the BGG deals thread, only $35! Bargain!

I picked up a couple of old, dusty copies of the Iron Kingdoms adventure games. Widower’s Wood came home yesterday, and that prompted me to grab a languishing (and nicely discounted) copy of The Undercity today. I’m not sure I need both (or either!) but the price was right and there’s something kind of neat about having two entirely different games with full cross-compatibility. We’ll see if I ever actually mix them up though.

Rallyman GT appeared on Facebook second hand, so I snatched it. That’s my first this year.

If any of you were interested in the Judge Dredd games from Osprey, there’s a heck of a sale on them right now:

You can find some gameplay reports for both games in my replies to Recent Boardgames (Your Last Played Game Volume 2) - #1851 by Phil
