We could try…but the game would probably outlive me.
Interested in hearing your thoughts. Sounds like the 2.0 updates cleared up some f the wording and such on the reference sheets and chips.
I’m so tempted by this right now. 401 games has it for a (relatively) great price. I’m just not sure we have room in the collection for it (given the complexity and playtime).
It’s things I almost forgot I ordered day! Summoner Wars 2nd edition showed up.
I really hate how Plaid Hat package their games.
Big box. Big board. Tiny rulebook.
Probably so they can package the same rulebook in the upcoming smaller boxes?
Ashes also had a small rulebook. They just seem to like it
The same rulebook was included in the Ashes 1.5 Upgrade kit; a box wide and long enough to fit that rulebook
Who cares about the original players??? What about MY feelings??
Wargamers are the best! I was talking to someone on the “Tweet Mill” about buying Hedgemony and one of the heads of the Georgetown University Wargaming program offered to answer any rules questions I might have, and also linked the original designer.
The original rulebook for Ashes was as tall as the box.
See!!! The original players already had their rulebook!! But they wanted to ruin mine out of spite!
Speaking of which…
An order I placed back in December finally arrived, pending the fulfillment of (the retail release of) Ashes 1.5 Upgrade Kit!
Ashes: 1.5 Upgrade Kit – a hefty box-o-cards packaged with the new edition’s rulebook. I really admire PlaidHat for supporting the old version like this. The retail cost for the upgrade was very reasonable considering what it contained. I am a little miffed that the 1.0 Jericho Kill Phoenixborn was not replaced with the upgrade kit… meaning I now have worthless stack of 1.0 cards for Jericho that can’t be used with the rest of my upgrade-to-2.0 Phoenixborns. Oh well, maybe I can sell it.
Versailles 1919 – I feel like euroy-war games are exploring more and more of the “euro”-side of the spectrum. Versailles 1919 doesn’t even feel like a wargame, other than it was co-designed by a very prominent wargame designer (Mark Hermann). I’m a tad disappointed that my OGS didn’t send me a copy of the fix pack along with the game… certainly they had some copies. Oh well, I guess I’ll pay GMT more money to fix their own mistake. I’m looking forward to engineering advantages for my own country in the wake of the Great War.
Unmatched: Bruce Lee & Unmatched: Little Red Riding Hood vs Beowulf – I might be at my limit for Unmatched content. I don’t think I have any interest in the new one coming out or in the ones I currently am missing (all of the Marvel stuff, Buffy, and also the Jurassic Park one)
I know this isn’t what you meant, but in terms of physical space, the dimensions of Cloudspire are a breath of fresh air compared to TMB. I can neatly fit it on my (quite large, actually) shelves! TMB needed to be stored inconveniently in one of my bed drawers.
I’ll be curious about my thoughts too, though.
I mentioned it in my TMB-sale post that Cloudspire is ripe for a flip if it doesn’t hit as well, but I’m hopeful given how close I got with Too Many Bones. As expected the underlying mechanics are pretty easy to work with, but then you’ve got the absolute glut of special powers and keywords, heavy asymmetry, etc. It’s going to be a doozie.
One thing I’ll note for you specifically though, is that I am really hopeful I might eventually get to play it PvP (as opposed to solo/co-op) because the groundwork for really great competition seems very strong here. Just requires huge commitment.
It seems a new version of Jericho’s deck is the first 1.5 expansion. It’s one of the “deluxe” expansions with new dice, etc.
I know the time dice were planned before the original end of the game’s run, so I wonder if this is what Jericho’s deck was meant to be, but they changed it when they knew there wouldn’t be any more expansions.
I’m guessing quite a lot. At least, I hope it’s quite a lot!
I think GMT will send you one for free. If not, let me know your shipping address, and I’ll send you my errata. I don’t own the game, yet they sent me the corrections along with two others that I do own.
(You can’t have those two. )
My addiction progresses as expected…I ordered POLIS: Fight For The Hegemony this afternoon. I am basically hopeless, aren’t I?
Did you bought 2.5 copies of Roads and Boats though? Gotta crack those numbers up!
Bought Impulse 2nd edition with the two expansions. I feel exalted. Another grail game down in just a week. Jeez.
There’s a game I should try again. I played it once far too late at night in a pub when we were all too tired to understand what was going on…
Impulse is a surprisingly confusing game. Not the rules, but in finding out how to play competitively. I’ve only played it once, fiddled around a bit multihanded. I’m not sure if it is good or not. If it is, it will take quite a bit of time to find out.
