Yowza!
Oof! What a haul!
Iām very jealous of the bottom one. Though KāsD has intrigued me after all the amazing press itās gotten.
I mean, going to critical response, I guess I should be envious of the top one instead.
I just added more to my P500 list as well. (I might have a problem?)
I will also say this about Eclipse: the shipping package isnāt terrible, but itās suboptimal for a box of that weight. Mine was shipped cross-continent from the distributorās warehouse in Oregon and has a crushed corner. I consider myself lucky.
All I can see on that box
It wonāt be visible on my shelf, thankfully.
The critics got it all wrong. Bigger boxes of space games are better than smaller boxes of campaign games that you cannot play two handed.
Still waffling about Eclipse. Still havenāt jumped for Xia. I fully expect to end up with both on a particularly bad day or something. But today is not that day.
Today, instead I ordered Modern Art for 19ā¬ (thanks for the tip @mr.ister) and because it just so happened added two Mars games to the order:
- Martian Chess (I know. But Mars)
- Ganymede (See above, but with a better BGG rating)
Thereās also possibly a copy of the first Dale of Merchants in there because I am a sucker for deck builders especially ones that claim to do a lot of deck destruction andā¦ cute animals?
And I only feel medium bad about it all and also the amount of games is cleverly hidden by breaking up the list. So there.
Iām posting this with a little frustration since I seem to have acquired a curse on the way out the door yesterday.
Initially I brought home Bonfire, but when I got it home I quickly realized I had inadvertently purchased a DIY copy of the game. A stack of 12 punch boards, 90% of which werenāt punched through. Half a board in, I was looking at the situation below and said to hell with it. So back it went (this was a first).
Anyway, on return to the store I decided I wasnāt willing to risk another bum copy, so I took home Maracaibo instead. This had a sneaky blown out box corner (top and interior) which needed immediate tape, my game board has a tear at the main fold, and most of the cards (and player aids) were apparently cut with a dull blade since they all have poor edges.
Iām living with this one, but a call is going to be made to Capstone for a little help here. The board is not going to last long.
Hard to feel good about this, but at least Iām legitimately invigorated by the rules for Maracaibo so far. Iām betting on my partner falling for it too.
Oooh! We started KD online when lockdown hit and had a great time with it. It wasnāt working for the less tech savvy, so think weāre all going to chip in for a game to play in person.
I spotted that from another thread and it appeared into the house today. Itās tiny. I approve!
Ya know, I cannot disagree.
I play all my games using two hands. Except Galaxy Trucker during the build phase.
The really cool thing about The Kingās Dilemma is that it finally gives me an excuse to use my bag of āgoldā doubloons.
Oh man, Iād love coins like that for Pax Renaissance. I did search on eBay last week, but it was all trash. Those are beautiful!
I bought them on Amazon (USA). Theyāre still available:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0826ZW55R?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Iām now imagining playing Sheriff of Nottingham and just bribing all the sheriffs with gold doubloons.
I must add to my comments above that I am a bit envious of Kingās Dilemma because I do not think that even after the pandemic I could find a group that would play this through in any amount of time and as far as I am aware it doesnāt work with two players.
If you didnāt already have a titleā¦
My second hand copy of Blood Rage arrived and I cannot wait to play it on Saturday (we have a Nerdvana event on Hastings library for most of the day)
Interesting that they eschewed the 18xx naming convention. I bet that ruffled some feathers!
It doesnāt surprise me that Boydell would base a train game in 5th century Oregon and ignore all cultural sensitivity.
