Last game you bought?

I bought the geek bits for Quacks. It was expensive but no regrets. They’re beautiful and the tactility upgrade is immense. Fortunately the game has been consistently popular with friends. The advantage of the bits is they’re still the right shape to fit perfectly on the board. Plus the translucent acrylic. Mmmmm, translucence  Playing with painted jolly rancher looking things is superior.

The white chips in raw cardboard form didn’t last long. Maybe a bit more than 4 games but not by much.

I’d be tempted by Orleans upgrades, but not really seen any in the UK I can be sure are worth it. Some of the starting tokens are definitely losing their print a little.

alternatively, you can get the upgrade pack from dlp games. Orléans: All inclusive upgrade kit | Board Game Accessory | BoardGameGeek

Ahem. Marvel United.

I hope the game isn’t awful as I’ll have lots of fun painting the toys.

I just ordered the base game off Amazon. I was on the fence for the KS until the PM closed, but passed.

So many people I follow have really been enjoying it, especially with some of the added content.

I’m torn between wanting to love it and hate it. If I love it, it could be expensive as I really want a lot of those minis just to have them! My son and I both absolutely love the look.

Any examples of people being positive about it you particularly liked?

Continuing coverage of Kickstarter Fulfillment Season (let’s just ignore the fact that it snowed here this morning, and is currently sleeting; that’s just what Spring Kickstarter Fulfillment Season is like here in Kansas) leads us to cover another new arrival!

Railroad Ink Challenge – The Box, It Is Smaller Than I Thought

So, for some reason, I expected this box to be enormous (well, it is… but not by comparison to many, many other games on my shelf). But, essentially, imagine you laid a Railroad Ink box down on the table flat, and then stacked another 6 copies atop that, all laying flat. And then you wrap those in a box and adorn it with a splotchy water-color motif. And then add some magnets for the “ooooh, aaaaaah!” factor. That’s what I just received.

However, a premium product it is not. The paper wrap on the big box has lots of bubbles and wrinkles in it. I’m going to send pictures of it to Horrible Guild, but I don’t suspect they will be sending replacements.

Durn. Ah well, mine is in theory on the way.

I can’t think of many specific examples, but there’s been a lot of comments on my Twitter feed of people really enjoying it, especially as the expansions have arrived.

I know the Dice Tower did a “4 Squares” (Tom, Zee, Mike, and Roy) follow up review with “all the things” and all of said it notably improved the game.

They said its still a simple coop, but it’s fun and engaging, while being easy to teach and quick to play.

While the variety is fun, it sounds like more villans is the most notable improvement.

Given our love of Marvel and minis, if we like the game this could be a big investment, lol.

There’s also a part of me that wants to play Marvel Crisis Protocol with the semi-chibi minis, lol.

With no surprises anywhere, I have yet another Kickstarter Fulfillment Season item to mention!

The Dragon & Flagon w/ The Brew That is True expansion arrived today. I think I first learned about this game by listening to Geoff Engelstein’s segment on the Dice Tower podcast. From the BGG game description:

Throw mugs, smash chairs, swing from the chandelier, sip from the legendary Dragon Flagon, cast spells, and pull the rug out from under your fellow adventurers as you attempt to build up your reputation and win the day!

Throw mugs, smash chairs, swing from the chandelier, sip from <things>, cast spells and pull the rug out from under <my friends and family>… these are all things I want to do in real life, but rarely get a chance to (other than the sipping from things).

Also, literally a 3d tavern brawl adventure (without minis; which is a merit in my book, others would certainly feel different):

“Yes, pillbox, but is it actually a good game?” I hear you asking. Well, who knows! The sales volumes seem to have been very low and there’s been very little critical coverage of it. But, of what there is, it seems promising.

In the process of writing this post, I watched a video with Mark Bigney’s thoughts from 2016. He seemed to enjoy his plays of it, but had some complaints – nothing that seems to be a deal-breaker.

My friends have this and I have only played it once. It is a programming game where everyone has identical cards for some actions, but since everyone is a generic D&D style hero, you also have some class specific cards to throw in the mix. Each action movies you X spaces on the time track, and whoever is last on the time track goes next.

My wife did not care for it, not liking the programming element. I enjoyed it quite a bit, having fun pulling rugs or throwing mugs at others, which (if I remember correctly, it has been a few years) can cause them to either lose their next action entirely to stand up (and possibly screw up their following actions) or push them further up the time track.

I think anyone who enjoys programming games like Robo Rally will get a kick out of it.

I’ve considered it before, but was put off by the price. But it appears to be available from Amazon for £20?? Slightly concerned it might be a fake version at that price … :worried:

Might just be trying to flush out old stock before the next shipment from the distributor comes in. I meant to check, but it’s possible the new printing may fix an errata card text

I’ve taken a chance on it. Threw in the Broom Service card game for free shipping.

Let us know how it goes, I’ll be all over that for £20 if it’s the genuine base game!

Well, it’s a Stronghold Games product… so a counterfeit might have better component quality (and better customer support if your components are damaged)

The base game of Marvel United arrived today. I have to say, even after seeing so many pictures I’m still impressed with how awesome the minis are!!

Damn you CMON!!

This will be hitting the table the next time my son is over, and I expect budgeting for the KS will begin, lol.

I cannot believe it. I bought the IV edition of Glory to Rome, (aka the cartoony art edition) and I still have both of my kidneys!!!

It also includes the Republic and the promo expansions

I thought that version was unpopular and cheap.

It’s going around £60 for the base. Not as bad as the Black Box - seen it sold for 300 USD.

Still. Pricey for a small box card game. Even if it is a Chudyk.
