Anticipated games

If you gave Imperial Settlers away, I don’t see how getting 51st State would work, considering how similar they are

I liked the multiplayer kind of but apparently not enough to keep asking others to play
I just saw it when I completed my pledge for Verdant and I am also waiting for the inevitable 10 minutes of Zee gushing about it when the Top 100 gets into the higher ranks (I only just watched 60 to 51 tonight)

I like the art direction in Imperial Settlers way more (I don’t care for the gritty post-apocalypse aesthetic). But it seems to my that 51st state is the better-supported game. I have most of 51st state content (barely touched) and input a little of the IS content. I really wish they would have done an ultimate edition for IS, since 51st will be a lot of duplicate content for me.

I’m curious about Final Girl and then I saw they currently have a Kickstarter campaign for a second ‘series’ (US$159) to go with the original series (US$159) – which was only released about 1 month ago? Is that right?

It seems like they’re stoking that hype train hard, which is instantly off-putting.

I’ll have to watch some reviews, though, and see if it really is fuss-worthy. (Has anyone seen any good balanced-seeming reviews?)

Edit: I should probably watch Anticipated games - #278 by SteveB_uk

Unfortunately the best time start a second campaign is when the first campaign arrives at people’s doors.

Like you say stoking the hype train hard.

I haven’t played it, but after seeing a few playthroughs (Final Girl - "Paula IS the Final Girl" - Table For 1 Play Through - YouTube) it seems… a bit simplistic? Fun enough, but essentially a mix of “Choose from these very few cards” and “balance your actions with purchasing” and “sometimes the dice will just punish you” which makes it sound much less exciting than Quinns’ review of Hostage Negotiator.

Gonna wait and see what people think of Season 2, as which hero powers / bad guy mechanics you buy would seem to be very important.

Your wish is my command.

Ahem. Ahem

Do not anticipate this new edition of 51st State.

Thank you.

There seems to be an uptick of interests from me this year. I had a look and the list is pretty huge.

  • Horseless Carriage - pre-ordered already
  • John Company 2 - Wole Cherle!
  • Aegean Sea - Chudyk’s Duke Nukem Forever.
  • Shikoku 1889 - not my fave 1830-style game, but still.
  • 1880: China - this one is “Want To Play”. Not sure if I am keen when 18New England and 1844: Switzerland have already bedazzled me.
  • 1848: Australia - Pretty impressed with the 18xx titles that came from GMT so far. Also, pre-ordered
  • 1860: Railways on the Isle of Wight - pre-ordered. One of my faves where you can invest 20% or more on a rival company and won’t risk any dumping. Dumping still happens, but it’ll be your share values that’ll take a hit.
  • Bear Raid/Factory Funner/Ghost of Christmas - KS trio package from Board Game Tables.
  • American Bookstore/Cinderella’s Dance - trick-taking game from Japan. American Bookstore is particularly well received in the BGG trick-taking guild.
  • Fjords - a redesign of the old Franz-Benno Delonge game of the same name. It can now be played up to 4.
  • Guards of Atlantis 2 - this one of the few times I got into the hype train blindly.
  • Pumafiosi/Soda Smugglers/Hot Lead - Criminal Capers series from Bitewing Games.
  • Union Station - Cube Rail from Travis Hill
  • Votes for Women - enjoyed Shores of Tripoli from this new publisher (also I’m biased here as I was one of the playtesters of SoT)
  • Crescent Moon - this one is one to watch, than to get. It’s from Osprey and an area control. So, that’s enough to get my attention.
  • Caesar! Seize Rome in 20 Minutes - Blitzkrieg WW2 in 20 Minutes is great so this one I wanna check
  • Rolling Height - another to watch. Same designer of Space Base and Cubitos

Forgot to add:

  • Ra - obvs
  • Amun-Re - another Egyptian themed Knizia. I am very keen on what they’re doing to accomodate lower player count. I wasnt impressed with the original.

Just got mail today that it’s in the EU warehouse
I hope it will arrive after vacation. I’ll post in the Recent Games thread when they get played. I assume Factory Funner to be the first in line. This was the one that interested me the most. Spatial puzzles ftw!

I have updated my 2022 Geek List: https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/285240/2022-my-anticipated-games

Lots and lots of games that got delayed. Without counting, I would bet that a third to half of these games were supposed to be 2021 games.

I’ve mostly ordered them by how much anticipation there is from my side

I really feel I should at least like one 18XX.

18Aus will be a decent production at least.

This one got pretty good player interaction (and trainzzzz). I’m gonna watch it for now as I enjoyed my 1 play of the original.

Looks like Libertalia’s getting a revamp:

Feeling quite pleased that I’ve been too cheap to pick up any copies of the original I’ve seen pop up for sale.

I’ve had the original for years and quite enjoy it. It’s great for filling the space between ultra serious strategy and light party game for bigger groups (up to 6 anyway). I’m intrigued by the idea of a revised and updated edition.

I’m immediately put off by the art and possible anthromorphic animal aesthetic

I thought the art seemed a bit off too. Although I’ll wait to see more of it. Hopefully I’m wrong.

Road to Infamy (who did Canvas 1+2) announce their new game “Globetrotting” on instagram. Probably through KS eventually.

Includes 3D globes that you write on with dry erase markers…

Their instagram is here.

It’s very pretty! (But so was Planet from Urtis Šulinskas, the one with the magnetic pentagons, and it didn’t have much in the way of gameplay.)

Oooh, that IS pretty.
