Anticipated games

Yeah thats where I am with it - I’d love to play it again but I’m not shelling out £100+ for nostalgia.

Apparently they do have some female PCs now.

True, I believe they did a gender swap option for all four heroes. Though I guess there’s some additional expansion heroes they made that don’t have both male and female options??

So by lazy, I didn’t necessarily mean nothing of value was added. They reworked the minis (though I’ve heard mixed reviews on this), added the gender options (which is great), added more plastic by upgrading the furniture bits from cardboard (pros and cons here), and it sounds like overall the production value is pretty good.

But to not even go through the rules and quests to fix known issues? That’s just crap.

Indeed - I don’t mean to downplay the importance of female characters, but it feels like the bare minimum to do at all, and if they could have simply reprinted the old edition they probably would have. Even new printings usually correct errata, never mind new editions.

Somebody in my gaming group bought it, and received it by the beginning of November. That’s me sorted, I don’t need it.

I’m just looking at it but the poorly pronounced Shit Weasel (apologies @yashima) looks lovely, whether I’ll buy it though

Life through the lens of a euro-gamer:

“Exciting competition” as the administrator of a coal mine.

EDIT: In other news, I am a euro-gamer and I do think there could be some excitement to be had. I’ve been eyeing Spitzer’s other games for a while but just can’t bring myself to buy any of them, e.g. Haspelknecht and The Ruhr: A Story of the Coal Trade.

And, obviously, these have the shelf-appeal of a moldy orange for the average light/non-gamer, so the likelihood of getting one of these games as a gift is pretty slim… especially since my wishlist instructions are always, “If you are going to buy me a game, buy me a game that you want to play with me

Honestly, it’s a theme so bland it just works. But yeah that’s pretty much why I’m not buying.

Other games are a hard enough sell as is, but 1950’s coal mine administrator might be a step too far.

I was just checking the player count on Bullet :blue_heart: (as I’ll be playing with a group of 5 on Friday) and discovered there’s a stand-alone expansion coming that means it will play up to 8.

This is the kind of **** that will get me suck back to Bullet again

Oh wow there’s a My City roll and write out soon. It’s got parts of both aspects of the game - the chapter structure and the map structure.

Even though we still have to start our My City campaign that looked indeed interesting. Maybe that will be for me what Cartographers wasn’t (although in hindsight C is one of the better R&Ws out there now that I have bought and sold a few of them–my copy of C lives at friends, I can get at it anytime)

If you play my city like we did once you start you’ll get through the whole thing really fast.

There is a German translation for Abyss and 2 expansions coming on Spieleschmiede. So far they have half the amount of people needed to get the project on the way but as the thing is brand-new (newsletters ftw) I expect there will be enough backers.

I’ve played it once on BGA with my partner–it wasn’t well suited to async play but it was enjoyable and also really really pretty. Luckily, in my experience once a German version has been made via Spieleschmiede the games are available at least there–it really helps that they are also a retail shop  So in my case no need to back now, no fomo, I like that. So now I have 6 months to play a few more times on BGA…

In other newsletter news the first print run of Arche Nova (the new Feuerland title) is selling out quickly. New preorders on my preferred online haunt are already for the 2nd printrun expected in March '22 and here’s the juicy tidbit the newsletter said that the game is going out to retailers right now and … “sorry guys but Amazon is getting no copies of this run”

Lol?

PS: myself I am not preordering this. Someone else can play it first and tell me if it is any good please? Because I am definitely curious but it is a big game and I have too many of those already so just buy-to-try is not happening
