Where on Earth are you!? Show us the sights from your part of the world

That kind of word-play haunted me the entire time I was there, and yet none of the tourist junk memorabilia leaned into it at all, like not even once.

Thats today’s $1,000 dollar idea. I mean we could make some sell them at the beach and break even?

It doesn’t look that far on the map to go every weekend.

I love the map time estimates differ by a whopping 7 minutes. When dealing with such long trips, I don’t think I would factor in that minor of a time difference when picking my route.

I let my in-laws pick the route. We convoyed the whole way there and back with them. The route shown definitely was more off the beaten path and had a lot more character than taking Interstate highways the whole way.

That is usually the more entertaining option, I have found. Sometimes, the only issue is distance between gas stations.

Or, with 4 children in your convoy (well, 3 of note… since the 4th wears diapers)… bathrooms. Which did prove to be a problem a couple of times.

Additionally, along the Alabama/Florida border that we were on, there was a good 20 miles of highway that didn’t have any cellular signal at all. Not something I’m used to.

Yes, yes, beach and all… But what AIRBRUSHED clothing did you get?!?

I bought exactly two things while there (other than food):

  • a snap-bracelet “pull-back” skateboard (because it was, objectively speaking, the coolest thing in the gift shop)
  • an over-sized mug with a turtle on (because I like oversized mugs, and I like turtles)

Both from the same giftshop at the aquarium we visited.

Nobody bought airbrushed clothes, but my partner and my two older daughters each bought a souvenir shirt of one variety or another that say Destin, Florida in one way or another.

You, sir, made excellent choices.

You should retire there. It will be your final Destin-ation.

It is unavoidable. It is your Destin-y.

I mean, how do they NOT have merchandise for this!?

My best guess is that they used to and that it’s entirely played out at this point.

Tourist shops sell to people who have not been there before, so a constant crop of naive suckers who haven’t heard the puns before.

Edit: speeling

Id say that was a pretty standard sized mug, as far as I am concerned!

I’m in Tampa, Florida for two weeks to grade essays for a national exam. Fun hanging out with colleagues and friends I’ve made over the years. Mind-numbingly dull reading student essays for 8-hour-days 12 days straight. The view of Tampa Bay is very nice, even when the essays get old.

The Charles was looking nice this weekend.

Plus I finally visited the most important cultural landmark Boston has to offer!

It doesn’t look like the Computer Museum.

No such thing in my world. That’s dissolved. Potato sack statue lives forever.

Wow. Glad I got there when I could.
