What are you watching?

Went to see the 50th anniversary release and it did not disappoint.

Realised that not only had it been 50 years since I saw this in the cinema but I was actually seeing it in the same space I saw it in 50 years ago. The cinema name has changed and it has been remodeled but it is in the same place.

God I’m old!

I did say I’ll watch it again before moving on to the others and I did. It’s amazing! :sob::sob:

We finished watching season 2 of Andor tonight. Really good series. I wish they could have pulled off their 5 season plan, but get that the production time would mean the actors would age a bit too noticeably to be believable, but it would be great to see what they could have pulled off.

We are going to watch Rogue One to round things out.

Watched Thunderbolts* this evening. Not awful. It doesn’t quite hold together and relies a little too much on snarky banter between the heroes, which in a Marvel film these days feels like a fallback to something safe and familiar, but I enjoyed it.

I’ll probably have forgotten about it by the weekend.

I will have to disagree. Thunderbolts* is one of the better Marvel films, and is definitely the best of this phase of the movies.

Watched The Fall of the House of Usher on Netflix. Good series. Liked how they tied in so many of Poe’s works.

That sounds interesting. Where did you watch it?

At my friend’s house. I think it was on Apple.

I just got back from seeing Brewster McCloud (1970), and it was absolutely bonkers. Mostly in a good way. If I said it was a bit like a slapstick mythological tragicomedy in 1960s Texas, you’d probably set your expectations somewhere in the right ballpark.

Apparently Shelley Duvall became an actor because Altman (and/or his casting people) spotted her doing something else, thought she’d be perfect for one of the roles in this film, and then spent something like a month convincing her to accept the part. And she’s really good in it (and then, career); so good call. But add that to the list of woes of the average struggling professional actor – we don’t want any of you trained actors… we want this woman who has never acted in her life, and doesn’t want the job.

Well, we finally signed up for Apple TV, mostly to watch Murderbot, which we really enjoyed. We had already had a free week a few months back and watched season one of Slow Horses, so now we’re watching season two, as one does.

After this it will be onto other shows like Foundation, Silo, and anything else the good people here recommend.

Lots of great stuff on Apple TV!

All of Slow Horses
Ted Lasso (even if you hate football you’ll love it)
Severance
Schmigadoon (even if you hate musicals you’ll love it)

I’ll watch Severance next after Foundation S3

If you’ve got Apple, time to binge For All Mankind (best alternative future/hard SF show I can think of), maybe indulge in a spot of Dickinson (very silly, but also includes some good historical stuff and poetry among the silliness)

Further votes here for Severance and For All Mankind.
