What are you watching?

Is it good?

It is not.

Should there be a Kaiju Glam Metal Shark Borg RPG?

Yes, definitely yes.

Watched Satoshi Kon’s Perfect Blue on the big screen. Horrifying! 5/5

This is absolutely wild. So “Sniper G.R.I.T.” is the tenth movie in the “Sniper” series - the first three had Tom Berenger, I remember catching at least one or two, and from number four onwards they were straight to dvd low budget cash-ins (starring his character’s SON oh yes) and now there are ELEVEN movies.

But the director who took over movie #9 clearly wanted to be Wes Anderson, and after trying it out a bit in #9 he took all the brakes off and went full bright-colours geometric camera shots Anderson style in #10 and it looks AMAZING

(…ly bad, it’s straight to dvd after all).

(Some shooting in the short clip at the link, but no-one is hurt and it’s comedy in a movie that shouldn’t be comedy)

I didn’t even know they’d made a sequel to Sniper, nevermind 9 more!!

The first one wasn’t all that, so not sure how it got so many sequels, even straight to DVD ones!

Sick in bed I watched Spy x Family season 1 and it was very cute. Definitely watching next season as well.

We got to episode 404 with One Piece last night which very fittingly features a case of „Not found“ and some extremely despairing screams from Luffy that I didn’t expect but fit the situation well enough. Ever since Skypia the epic scale on the adventure has been going up and up. Since Thriller Bark I finally understand the „Nothing happened“ poster I have seen on sale a few times at manga shops. Should have bought it. But without knowing the details at the time it was only half as epic.

It still feels like watching one of the best RPG campaigns ever. Only 700 episodes to go.

I have also been reading the manga. Up to chapter 114 now. It is so cool revisiting everything :innocent: but I will be skipping Skypia definitely.

Skypia was really the worst ark we have seen so far outside some filler episodes.

Are you watching it subbed or dubbed? If you’re watching it in Japanese, do you recognise Anya’s voice?

Is there a reason why I might? I sometimes recognise the same voice actors being used frequently, but Anya doesn’t sound particularly familiar.

dubbed. sorry. I also watched Frieren dubbed. I usually watch dubs until they aren’t available. apparently the English VA is the same as Sanji but One Piece we are watching with German subs because nothing else is available in Crunchyroll in Germany.

Maybe I should switch over to Japanese and rewatch Frieren :innocent:

edit: she sounds so different… I might not have noticed if I had been watching in Japanese. From a few sentences I just checked definitely not…

Anya’s Japanese VA is also the voice for Frieren.

Fun related tidbit: Fern (from Frieren) has the same English and Japanese VAs as Suletta from MSG: The Witch from Mercury.

And to bring it full circle: the English VA for Miorine in WfM is the voice of Yor from Spy X Family.

Interesting.
One I noted was the Japanese VA for Loid Forger is the same as Souei from Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken.

I’ve watched a few episodes of Turkey! Time to Strike - which I expect to be this calm and wholesome anime about this high school bowling club and then WWWWTTTTFFFFF IS GOING ON!? Oh the twist! Will be watching more to see if the story is well executed

Season 3 of The Diplomat was awesome, just like season 1 and 2.

I enjoyed this one, but it definitely does not explain much, so I could see it leaving some a bit unsatisfied.

I did like the little bonus bit at the end explaining how it took three years to make because they were just using their own dog with no special training, and how a full day of shooting may only get them a few seconds of usable footage. You can at least tell it was a labor of love.

I agree with you there.

Boots - a surprisingly affecting (and pretty well acted) drama, ostensbly about being gay in the Marines but seems to cover the general dehumanisation of the boot camp and the reasons people go through it

Just finished it myself. Such a good show

We’re still busy watching as much One Piece as my partner will let me.

We’ve got into the low 500s now. 529 will be the first episode for tonight. I found a website that lists each episode timestamp where the recap ends which can sometimes be minute 6 or 7, sadly the titles of the eps are sooooo spoilery that it is a bit difficult to not know what is happening the next few episodes–apparently Crunchyroll has a skip button only for relatively recent episodes.

Plotwise, we’ve finally passed through some major spoilers I had about the Summit War (?) since before we even began watching the anime. The kind of spoiler you never forget even if you have no idea who the characters in question are. It made for stressful watching for a while because when you know what happens… but it was still incredibly good to watch despite the spoiler. I managed to not spoil it for my partner.

I have also made it into the mid-200s of the Manga chapters

I had a business trip / on-site for my company this week and found out that several of my colleagues are huge fans. They gave me a few new meta spoilers… oh well. But I also got to tell one of my colleagues who complained about something at work to “be more like Zoro” so that was fun.

I got some new anime recommendations from them that I’ll be following up on on my own (I occasionally manage to watch even more anime without my partner). Among others Clevatess (which yes yes someone here as already recommended to me, I will watch it as soon as I have finished the Spy x Family movie.)

How many episodes are there? Over 500 already sounds wild.
