Finished Kaiju no. 8 Season 1 and I love it. Both opening and ending songs hits hard too
Season 1 is great. Unfortunately I checked out partway through season 2, which seems⦠boring.
We are back to watching One Piece together. Weāre just beyond the Water7 Ark and now on Enies Lobby. Good times, the Strawhats get to shine. After we had taken a break and watched a bunch of other stuff, it is quite the thing to return to this and I still love it. Weāre now around episode 265 or so, still a few to go⦠weāll probably take another break when this Saga finishes.
In the meantime, Iāve binged almost everything that comes up on āmore like thatā starting with ā7th Time Loopā. Those are either groundhog-year timeloops or Otome Game isekai with female MC. None of them are particularly great, they all have just 12 episodes so there is no time to get really bored of the story, thereās almost always enough for the 1st season. My favorite remains 7th Time Loop.
The most standout from this latest batch was Doctor Elise - Wikipedia which features a spoiled girl villainess who dies, gets reborn, becomes a doctor, dies again and gets reborn in her original body. The thing is it felt like someone really did some research on the medical stuff. Iād watch another season of that.
Finished the Witch and the Beast. Not perfect. Seems the animation studio donāt have (or didnāt pour) enough money into it. Crunchyās English VA I wish could have been better.
But I like the Gothic setting, the worldbuilding, and the characters (and their dynamics).
Just binged an entirely unexpected 4th series of Diane Morganās Mandy. If youāve enjoyed the rest of it, youāll enjoy these episodes too :).
Legally not Dr Strange.
Is it a great movie? It is not. It is fun and it has Jeffrey Combs, plus some nice stop motion work from David Allen.
Twisted Metal - Iāve not played the computer game, but it appears to be Mad Max with Anthony Mackie driving across a post-apocalyptic US. Iām enjoying it so far.
Episode 1 of Alien: Earth is freaking incredible.
Much like Prey it leaves me thinking āthey could have just been making good tv/movies this whole time?ā
Claymore - 10/10 Masterpiece. I need a remake of this right now. Right. Now. And then inject it into my veins. omg
The anime? If so, I never got around to watching it, but read a good chunk of the manga before they either stopped translating and publishing it in English, or the stores around me stopped stocking the new volumes. It was pretty dang good!
The anime! I found out that it went the FMA route where they caught up with the manga. But itās complete now in 2025 and bought the whole set. Because I need more! ![]()
We finished the Enies Lobby ark of One Piece. Those fights: legendary.
I made a meme about being enraged about some tech stuff and found one of Luffy using Gear 2 and that night after I made the meme ⦠we watched the episode with exactly that image. So much fun.
Also tears. And more tears.
My partner watched a stream of someone building the Going Merry lego set. And got spoilers for the episode we watched right after. I mean the episode is 20 years old. But what are the odds?
I thought we were taking another break after this ark but no. It seems not. It is just getting really good.
I watched it back in 2011 or thereabouts, I think. Where does one fine the ācomplete now in 2025ā episodes?
Ah no. Thats the manga. It is completed
Watched Princess Mononoke tonight at BFI IMax in Waterloo. Absolute banger 10/10 Masterpiece in 4K!! ![]()

Ha I watched it at the Glasgow science centre imax last night. Great to see on the big screen but made me realise how much I underestimated the soundtrack and the use of silence in the film.
Millennium Actress by Satoshi Kon. Amazing. I highly recc. The blur between her real life memories and the old films she starred on is confusing but eventually found it fun and really engaging I would love to watch it the 2nd time. I will do that before I move on to the other Kon films:
- Perfect Blue
- Tokyo Godfathers
- Paprika
- Magnetic Rose
- Paranoia Agent (anime series)
I think Paprika is peak Kon, though Tokyo Godfathers is fantastic as well. I have not seen Paranoia Agent and hadnāt even heard of Magnetic Rose, so I may need to track that one down. The world lost him far too early, he was a fantastic filmmaker.
Our local cinema had a Satoshi Kon retrospective in honor of his 15th anniversary of death last week. I watched Perfect Blue for the first time, which was fantastic, and Paprika, which was also excellent but quite a lot to take in at a first watch. Need to watch again. Iāve watched Tokyo Godfathers (also great) early this year. Millennium Actress as well as Paranoia Agent are currently on their way to me. Ridiculously great writer/director from what Iāve seen so far.
I wasnāt sure about this one as he was only the Writer on this, compare to Writer & Director on his own films. But Memories is available for me to watch, so Iām gonna list it
