Have to disagree and agree. The writing on The Batman certainly didn’t help but Batman as a character permits for fine acting, writing permitting.
Shame there hasn’t been one then!
I love Michael Keaton’s Batman but I wouldn’t call it an acting tour de force. Val Kilmer and George Clooney did nothing in the role. Even Bale (in my opinion) wasn’t great his films. His voice was just annoying as Batman!
A trailer just released for the “Murderbot” show (based on the brilliant books).
They actually capture the comedy and the character MUCH closer than I expected, this could be great:
Similar, quietly optimistic… but always thought of Murderbot being more feminine for some reason.
The Bondsman is very fun. Gory, pulp horror with Kevin Bacon fighting demons, but also has the terrific Damon Herriman in it. Everyone in the cast are acting as hard as they can, like it’s high art instead of on the level of Ash Vs Evil Dead. It’s VERY gory, but full of surprises.
Well, that’s one of the many advantages of books.
I am glad if Martha Wells is getting a lot of money; I suppose I am glad that the stories will reach a wider audience. And I’ll admit the thing is done well. But if can never match the version in my head.

I agree with the feminine vibes. Like the books a lot, have to check if there are new ones
And yes, one more Murderbot Diary book and a new fantasy novel apparently.
I wish there was a website like myepisodes.com which I used to keep track of what shows I watch, for books. (Nowadays it is not as useful anymore because the streaming services tell me what’s coming but anyways.)
I have to remember to look every other year if my favorite authors published new books. And that kinda sucks.
shrug I’ve never seen any of the animated movies so couldn’t comment
You can favourite authors on Fantasticfiction.com and you get a notification if they update the listing (i.e. a new book is announced, usually with a publication date) if that helps.
ME TOO!
It seems… wrong… with the face/actor they chose for it, but I am very cautiously optimistic.
I had not even heard of Murderbot before the Apple+ show hit. I do find it interesting how we code feminine or masculine traits onto robots. Take WALL-E, for example. It’s probably safe to assume that most people coded WALL-E as male and EVE as female, but there really is no reason to except for their names and our own cultural expectations of behaviors and aesthetics of male versus female. This makes me wonder if the coding of femininity onto the asexual Murderbot is due to Murderbot’s behavior (empathy?) being seen as feminine and seeing it portrayed by masculine actor creates dissonance. There could be an entire gender studies lecture created on this topic.
Just popping back in to say yes, I too pictured Murderbot with a feminine body when I read the books, and I was very worried that Alex S was precisely the wrong person to portray them in the show.
But actually that trailer gives me a lot of hope that they’re going to get it exactly right (and who is under the armour isn’t the point in the books).
Martha Wells was consultant producer on the show and I’m now so much more optimistic that it’s going to be good.
Even as someone who loved True Blood (it was a long time ago now) his lack of facial expressions only compares to Keanu Reeves and Steven Seagull (see Fishmaster) and I do think he’s a better fit than those two.
But yes I coded Murderbot feminine, too.
Yeah can’t think of anywhere they overly describe feminine features so it’s totally an unconscious bias.
I don’t, but my assumption would be something gender-neutral simply because that was the minimum effort option. (Clients are supposed never to see the face anyway.)
I really liked The Dark Knight and quite liked Ben Affleck’s Batman.
Totally agree with you on Kilmer and Clooney.
