I often listen to these guys when I want something loud. Kerretta make heavy instrumental rock, and I suspect that some of you would really enjoy it.
“Originally commissioned by Glasgow Film Festival at the beginning of 2011 as a live re-score performed by the band, this project grew into something much bigger than anybody had ever anticipated.”
Nice!
I’ve had a few incredible experiences with live performances of newly-commissioned film soundtracks. Extremely cool to see something like this resulting from such an instance.
Who would have thought Idles would have the number one album? Brexit/COVID Britain apparently. So, erm, yeah… I’m listening to Bristol’s finest!
Just finished listening to RAP Ferreira’s 5th anniversary gig for So the Flies Don’t Come, sorted by Pink Naval.
Really nice to see an enby musician support somebody so prolific and influential, and also just such a good album.
Towards the tail end he said he “doesn’t f–k with this guy anymore like that” about a guest on the last track, referencing the fact that the guy committed sexual assault in the interim period between the album and now, and he performed the song and just freestyled over the bits where he originally talked about how much he idolised him. Must be incredibly difficult to do something like that, and I have a lot of time for Ferreira because of how he’s dealt with that. (Going to far as to write a track about it, saying “it’s hard to listen to your favourite track when the CD’s skipping and your heroes are prone to victim blaming”.)
Overall a really interesting gig with two really good performances.
Bristol’s finest? Surely you mean Bananarama!
Strong contenders, I have to admit!
So…
After watching a random episode of TotP2 I ended up listening to ‘Song for whoever’ by the Beautiful South. This in turn led me to revisit the ‘Carry on up the charts’ album in its fullness…
Which then led me to Discover that Paul Heaton is still banging out songs that stick in my head over twenty years later.
(And they still have alternative rude lyrics like they always did.)
Have you seen the video of them in the hotel room?
Not yet! !
Sorry. It was on twitter last year and the link has been taken down
Jacqui Abbott has deleted her account apparently
Nice story about Paul Heaton on twitter just now:
Another soundtrack tonight, this one original:
Carpenter Brut - Blood Machines
This started out as a music video which got expanded into a short film after a successful Kickstarter:
Synthwave is definitely a guilty pleasure recently. Just stick on 3 hours of something that sounds like the bit 2 mins into this one, and I’m happy.
New solo album from the lead singer of my favourite album of all time.
I am incredibly hype now. I’ll be jamming to this for a while, I imagine. There’s been a few singles released already and they’re pretty much all able to just go on repeat for me.
Hype.
Yesterday I semi-accidentally left this on repeat for an hour or so while I got involved in writing some complicated email.
I play that on the ukulele now and then.
I’ve always loved how far people get into the audience participation on that one
