I’ve been getting into The Future Sound of London’s work - very much electronic anarchy-hippies from the 1990s - lots of my friends raved about them (and with them :)) at the time but I’m only just listening now. Really interesting soundscapes. Good starting place:

Their track Landmass was better for Wipeout 2097 races.

I’ve been on a Blue Öyster Cult kick these days, I’ve listened to most of their albums (I’m at The Symbol Remains right now, so their penultimate one, and I cannot find Heaven Forbid or The Curse of the Hidden Mirror anywhere for some reason, so I don’t have those two). Some random thoughts:
1.These guys actually wrote, recorded and released a song titled “She’s As Pretty As A Foot”. LOL. Just… LOL

They’re really more of a song band than an album band, for me. Like, some songs make a massive impression, the mythology of Astronomy (my favourite), the epicness of Veteran Of The Psychic Wars, the unhinged camp of Joan Crawford, the sentimentality of In Thee, etc., but albums don’t, really. Like, you could build an incredible best-of and that’d be enough. I constantly have to look up what album a song is from because it just doesn’t stick (I have the same issue with Iron Maiden).

The big exception to the above is Imaginos. This might be my favourite album of theirs (though The Symbol Remains is also fantastic, making it the second exception so far and a close second assuming it doesn’t overtake it). It’s heavy, it’s mystical, it’s captivating. I know it wasn’t super well received critically or commercially, and the band themselves seem to HATE it, but man, this might be the most stereotypically BOC album in BOC’s career, a distillation of everything I like about them. My ONE gripe is that they remade Astronomy and it’s not as good as the original.

Oooh, that’s why I liked that track from the Masters of the Universe movie. Although it’s billed as a Daniel Pemberton piece (and he’s very good) the guitar is literally Brian May on the red special.
Well then yes, this is why I would like 10 more hours of it please thank you.

Amorphis was great . same set list (and just as great) as concert last autumn but open air is a whole different feeling. it’s great to see them have fun playing for so many 1000s of people.
Paradise Lost. Great sound. somehow live they are always playing a bit faster.
Today we’ll have Arch Enemy as highlight of the day.
Tomorrow I haven’t quite figured out. I’m too late.to metal to appreciate Helloween and Testament so probably Soulfly.

Just heard that Queens of the Stone Age are coming to Osaka this year, and I didn’t know they were still going! So I’m listening to everything they did since, uh, 2006, which was when I last bought one of their albums.

At Shrewkfest (ukulele festival) at the beginning of the month I saw Fragile Lucy live and just barely restrained myself from abasing myself at her feet and saying “teach me, o master”.
