On the subject of live vocal looping, I’ve loved the way Kimbra layers things up in these two videos ever since I first saw them:
Daisy Jones & the Six is a manufactured band specifically to play as a fictional band in an Amazon Prime show of the same name. But their album is pretty hot, not gonna lie. The River is the best Fleetwood Mac song that isn’t a Fleetwood Mac.
Apparently the weather’s nice this bank holiday weekend?
I wouldn’t know, I’m at an indoor music festival
Ooh, I know people in two of those bands
On the last band of the day (for me) and I’ve seen 10 bands in 9 hours. Phew.
Hope Axes was one of em. Happy to see they still exist!
Indeed, started one of their songs by saying, “this is an oldie, hell they’re all oldies at this point.”
I’ve been listening to the Youtube recommended music I would like (or have liked? Whatever), and this one popped up. Catchy, and a great video.
It is catchy. And the music video is hilarious.
On a personal note, I just can’t get over auto-tune and it negatively impacts my relationship with modern music.
I’m not sure if I should thank you or curse you for introducing me to “Polkadot Stingray.”
Gosh they’re good.
The new full length from King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard is here. It’s one of their rare, pure Metal albums and honestly, I’ve been having trouble processing how good it is.
Surprised I haven’t mentioned them here before, but 20+ year ago (when I was a teenager), I spent most of my time online on the forum for a guitar tabs site. Made various friends there that I’m still in touch with.
One of them grew up to be the guitarist for Sarah and the Safe Word, who played their first show in the UK last night. I headed down to London to see them (and meet up with my friend). Excellent gig.
Gig went well enough that they did an encore they hadn’t planned and pulled out this song that’s old enough it’s not on their Spotify and only the singer and guitarist were in the band when it was released.
I’m possibly one of the few people there who knew it. Somewhere, I still have the demo he sent me 7 years ago
Where Synthwave meets Metal, live…
Almost absurdly it seems that, for each song with vocals, the original vocalist was there to sing their song (according to the comments, at least). Only a third of the tracks have vocals; but that’s still six different singers.
Also paging @tomm_archer for this video.
p.s. The audacity of that final song at a Metal festival :D
Thanks for the reminder, been meaning to watch this.
Edit: I’ve been lucky enough to see bands like FM-84 and Nordic Giants live when they’ve had the guest artists turn up to the gigs.
Gunship are talking about touring at some point and one can only hope they bring Tim Cappello along for the ride.
Only a few tracks in and it’s already a great set - now I really want to see them again.
Edit: I’ve come to expect that track as the finale, but having the two singers was fantastic.
Well, it’s not meant to be out for another week, but I just received my CD of Svalbard’s new album this morning, so now that’s on repeat.
Wondered where I knew the name from, they played at Portals festival but I might have missed them as I was getting dinner.
