I had started this weekend wanting to play a specific album today, but got sidetracked by a handful of 10"s that I’ve not played in ages:
Feel free to roast my hipster playlist. Happy to hear any suggestions to add in there too.
Tomorrow’s listening sorted, thank you very much!
I’ve been listening to Jess and the Ancient Ones a lot lately as they just released a new album.
And despite mostly listening to stuff on Spotify these days, I still like to own stuff on CD, so I ordered their new album as well as their debut direct from their record company (I try and buy direct from bands or labels these days to avoid places like Amazon and make sure the artists are getting a decent cut).
The package arrived today and not only was it cheap (€22 inc postage, despite coming from Finland), but they threw in a couple of other CDs as “free samples” One from The Exploding Eyes Orchestra, a side project by some of the members of JatAO, and another from Trees, a Finnish folk band.
I had a general Chicago playlist running today, which seemed to focus entirely on their initial output as a band… at least, for a while anyway. Took a quick trip inside to wash up and get dinner ready to bring out to the grill.
I came outside, noticed the playlist had (finally) shifted into later stage Chicago and a deeply disturbed face on my partner. She asked me WTF we were listening to all of a sudden.
…Chicago, was my reply.
[EDIT] Just learning The Biz died a couple of days ago. I’m going to be running comedy rap in his honour for the next few days; I saw him live several times and he was properly beloved.
May he rest in peace.
I’m loving Yumi Zouma’s EP III, at the moment.
In Camera is the one that pulled me into listening to the entire EP
Saw the sad news this evening that Dusty Hill has died, so I’ll be lining up the whole run of ZZ Top albums and raising a glass to the man.
I read an article about folk metal bands from around the world and they were all pretty good, but the highlight was Zmey Gorynich from Russia.
They swing wildly between folk, extreme metal and even occasionally dance breaks. I have no idea what they’re on about, but it’s very fun.
I really like her latest two albums
I’ve got a lot of time for her, but I think she peaked with Red and Love Story. Prefer the more country stuff
Never actually heard her before, and I’m not usually a fan of that “breathy” singing style. But that ain’t bad at all.
Yeah I enjoyed the folky one. Although that might just be my bon iver showing.
Unexpected James Hong!
Just a quick link here for a good (occasionally brilliant) comedic musician:
His best known is the equally catchy HYCYB? song…
I think “Artificial Intelligence” is better, but they’re both catchy in their own way.
