The resurrected miniatures painting and showing off thread

I’m also a bit mystified about how they’ve snagged some of the IPs they have, but they seem like a company that likes to take big swings, and leans on their internal skill set to put together stuff they think is cool. I would also guess that, once the big Kickstarter pushes are done, the overhead to produce warbands and GB teams is relatively low, so they can work on them in the spaces between their big guys. It also gives them an outlet for a hodgepodge of visual and mechanical experiments. If I ran a game company, it’s how I would hope to do it.

As long as their IP based games keep making money, I’m sure they’ll keep getting them.

I think that’s a good point too. They almost feel like director/actor that agrees to do the big Hollywood blockbuster, so that the studio will finance their passion project, lol.

That said, I completely agree. I don’t have much interest in their IP games (so far), but I respect business decisions behind making the games they do.

Their games shop/playing space in Trafford park (Manchester) is also quite nice. 10 mins from me and the staff all seem great. Not just for their own stuff either.

Gordon Highlanders and Black Watch. I began to question my sanity when attempting the hat and sock bands.

And how did your sanity respond?

Relatively positively, which is just as well as there’s about another 50 waiting for paint!

  1. You’re patient!

I just invested in some proper paint. None of this army painter stuff for me now!

Made some little shelves for my inks at the top.

And painted this guy using the scalecolor paints. I looked at my minis shelves and decided they weren’t very inclusive, so decided to use it as an opportunity to learn to paint new skin tones. Quite enjoying the scalecolor paints.

Looks great! How do they compare to Vallejo? I’m only using contrasts at the minute, but think I will buy a full normal paint set now I’m getting into it all.

They need a reasonable amount of water mixed in to go on smooth, and then are pretty transparent. I’ve only used a limited range and a fair few creams/yellows/whites so others might be different. Blending with them is tonnes easier and they thin beautifully, keeping a paint like behaviour instead of running everywhere. Overall I’m really pleased, but they do take longer.

And the last of the Godtear warbands are painted. Still holding off on Grimgut until I’m feeling sculpty.

I’m really happy with the process of painting this last batch. This is the first set where I’ve used the Redgrass wet pallette, some decent kolinsky brushes, and a broad set of paints. I felt confident enough to tackle some details I usually avoid. (eyeballs), and found a good use for Contrast Aethermatic Blue. (Fancy silk shirts).

Finished another one.

Those look great!

Have you seen the sculpts for the new Slayer coming in August!!! Her dragons look amazing!!

The new sculpts really do look awesome. Good to have more large minion options too. (Kinda cool that the champion is way smaller).

For sure! My only concern is I hope it’s not overly fiddly to track the HO of 2 large minions, though I’m sure they’ll come up with something.

I have a 5 day weekend coming up, so I hope to get another game in, but we’ll see. There are a few other games that need to hit the table again, and I promised my son we would play The Edge.

I really need to find a storage solution for some of my bigger skirmish games, as it would really help getting some of them to the table more often.

My copy (copies, really) have been in transit limbo since they left Florida on the 9th. Really hoping it shows soon; the lack of tracking isn’t normally a concern for me but these are rough times for multiple border crossings.

[EDIT] You should consider just binning them like I do. I don’t have one particular solution but I find just working things out with basic hardware supply storage works a treat most of the time.

Copies of which?

Yeah, that’s my current thought. Probably grab a few hobby bins, and use one for each game. Not pretty, but convenient.

GodTear. I grabbed the starter sets and a bunch of the first wave factions.

Oh nice! I didn’t realize they were coming the US.

It seems like they still have Quartermaster Logistics handle things, at least for a North American order. Purchase was direct through their webstore, but the shipping confirmation began with a USPS tracking number from Quartermaster so I suspect they must warehouse for them.

(I’ve since learned my FLGS has a line on them and can get them in fairly easily. Not as friendly pricing-wise as with Skytear but still worth avoiding the international shipping (stock was out at the OLGS’ I’m comfortable with at the time).

Ok, that makes sense.

I nabbed mine just after Christmas, for a pretty great price. Sold out shortly after.

It seems to be doing well though, which is promising.
