The resurrected miniatures painting and showing off thread

Hey all. This is the spiritual successor to the great miniatures painting thread from SU&SD.

Find the old thread at…

If it stays up read only!

Let’s make this one bigger and better!

I’ve just printed some more minis so I’d best get painting!

Image uploads may now be working if you’re patient! (One image per post for new users!)

I know this is the painting thread, but I’d like to know more about your printing too. That’s a resin printer, right? Is that a must for miniature printing or could one get by with a filament machine?

Resin, yes. The anycubic photon. Fdm (filament) machines won’t do acceptable mini quality. They’re mainly used for large terrain pieces. I have a fdm at work, but the resin is my home machine. It’s much cheaper than buying minis, but it can escalate!

That makes sense, I have an FDM for non-game-related making, just wondered if I could branch out without investing in a new printer

It’s not too pricey, and whilst people.make a fuss about resin and post processing it’s totally fine. Resin is way easier than the super unreliable FDM. Press a button to start the print and walk away. Don’t even need to look at it until it’s done. I was almost finished on my second bottle of resin before I had my first (partial) failures.

I haven’t painted anything in the last week, sadly, but I’m posting here as a reminder to get off my butt and get those Yu Jing models started (and, hopefully quickly, finished!).

I’m going to double post these Riders of Rohan, otherwise it will be probably another month before I have anything to share.

Next on the painting table is a return to 15mm Napoleonic figures, namely some skirmishing riflemen of the 95th regiment.

Also double-posting for a bit of continuity. Day 4 of my Shasvastii Nox troopers and I painted the red armour and applied black and brown wash to armour and faces respectively. Here are the results:

Note: I had more pictures but as a new user I can only put in one. More to come!

Next up I’m going to work on some details and highlights. I think I’m going to try out dry brushing!

I believe the initial post now contains a dropbox link to a copy of the original thread. Please check this.

Thanks for archiving the old thread

This model would be ok were it not for the face. I’m going to have to paint over that monstrosity and start again!

I really like the base on this one!

Thanks. Not my finest work but when she’s with the rest of the battlemages on the shelf she’ll look ok.
I think the face is more bearable now. I’m going to stop on this one before I go crazy!

The rest of you need to paint more! That’s what lockdown is for
Just finished this beast.

Absolutely gorgeous. I love the individual details you gave to its scaled wings and on it’s body. The soft orange/red combined with greens and darker colours gives it a real natural feeling.

I thought it looked nice on the base so went for it on the dragon, but I tell you I was regretting it after a bit! 20 mins per side of each wing. Another 90 mins for the body. That was just the leaves!

It looks amazing though!

Is it from a game, or a standalone mini?
