Continuing to work on my Yu Jing. I have 7 on the go at the moment, but 2 are for a painting contest (well, one of them will be submitted, but I’m not sure which yet, so I’m keeping them both aside) so I can’t post pictures of those until the contest ends.
ANYway! Did most of the pinks and the black undercoat on these guys. Pretty content with the results thus far… oranges next.
I really like the orange, but it is taking forever to get these guys done. At this rate I am painting more-or-less 1 model a day (assuming I finish all these tomorrow, which is likely), which means my Yu Jing as it stands will take… 30+ days. And that’s way too long.
Oh well. Maybe it will speed up after a bit of practice? I’m still sussing out where to put the blue-green on these folks as I go along.
Going to finish these guys (plus the two for the competition) today. Just have to do weapons, basically (skin and hair on that one hero), and then touchups on the orange on a few of them.
Okay, finished this batch and picked which of the two models I’m submitting to the competition (obviously not the one you see in this thread due to contest rules).
And the next batch I’m going to work on… 6 Zhanshi (3 “old” Zhanshi, 3 “Kaldstrom” Zhanshi), plus two High Value Targets (the two unarmed models in the background.
For some variety before starting my Yu Jing I painted an ultramarine. Was quite fun to paint really. I really like the primaris minis. The tech is so good they go together so well and they no linger have all the clutter. I’d really like to paint an army and play some 40K with some good friends who still play. However an army would cost all the £’s and the rules still look utter poop.
Got a bunch of the Zhanshi work done yesterday before having to go back to my job (aside: wearing a mask for 7 hours straight, not so bad. Having to not drink water or coffee for 3.5 hours at a time is really hard… plus lunch procedure was: Wash hands, remove mask, wash hands, eat and drink, wash hands, put on mask, wash hands, go to washroom, wash hands).
Here is Saturday’s work compressed into a single post:
I’ll be honest, these guys are coming together a lot faster than I expected. I guess the big chonky armour is trickier to paint than I realized (or I’m getting back into a groove? Either way, pleasantly surprised).
Going to get this batch finished, and then on to the next 8 models (probably a few Zuyong, a few Daoying, and a couple Tiger Soldiers). But going to finish these guys first.
As per usual, took slightly longer than expected (thought I would be done last night, but the black-paint on the base-ring was finished about an hour ago).
Pretty happy with how they turned out, and nice to have a few more HVT options even if I don’t expect to use the Zhanshi all that much (I’m mostly interested in the “Invincible Army” sectorial at this time, and they don’t use line troopers).
Anyway. That’s 8 more models than I expected to have finished this week finished, so they’re going into the case and then I’m working on the next 8: 4 sniper rifles, 2 jump troops, and a couple hackers. More pictures once I finish writing this chapter (probably… Wednesday?).
Nicely done! I particularly like how you broke up the perimeter of the base by having small elements extend beyond it, but not by much. It gives a sense of containment without restrainment.
Also, everything looks better when offset against a crokinole board.
I think I need to be done with these guys. I’ve been fiddling for over a week. The gangly one on the end got most of a pot of Contrast Medium dumped on him, so he may get a Simple Green bath and a restart.
