The resurrected miniatures painting and showing off thread

fig. 1a: ex. of hands untouched by real work of any kind

I managed to crank out a second one last night, though with dwindling light I got slapdash with the grimy wash. Curiously, my matte varnish dried rather glossy here, so I have some fixing to do. Any thoughts on this? It was brush-applied.

Pretty happy with this little angy guy. Very happy with the Redgrass handle.

I’ve been curious about their handles myself (plan to get their wet palette eventually). How do you find the putty lasts/works? Ok?

I haven’t had any trouble. It sat exposed and untouched for about 2 weeks with the drider from a few posts back stuck to it, and bounced back just fine. It sets quite stiff, but becomes malleable with moderate handling. The next project is probably the massive Errtu that came in the same game, which will be the real test of the handle. It’s the first handle I’ve owned, so I can’t really compare to its competitors, but the action of the cap rotation is very smooth, with enough resistance to keep things in place, and the gimmick of the magnetic handle and metal plate to hold everything upright when not in use has come in very handy. Those are two features that I didn’t know I would like so much.

I have also been really happy with the wet pallette. If you are of a mind to invest a bit in the hobby, I recommend both items.

Oh the wet palette is a guaranteed purchase. The one I have doesn’t have a working space I’m happy with, so once the sheets start getting low I’ll strike.

I’ve got one of RGG handles as well, and I’ve been very happy with it so far. As @bengeile said, the magnetic base is surprisingly useful. The magnet is strong enough that I can slide the metal disc under my cutting mat, and there is still a really strong connection with the base. I’ve got three caps at the moment, and switching them around is simple.

I found it extremely useful when painting up the ships shared here previously, including when fiddling around with the rigging.

Okay, half of my remaining Yu Jing are finally finished! I could scroll up to see how long I’ve been working on them, but I’d rather not… anyway, they’re done!

(I lightened the pictures a little bit digitally because it was late at night when I took the shots and I’m lazy)

Okay, that only leaves me 8 more models to paint… they’re a little bigger, but the details are less fiddly, so hopefully they will finish up faster (I’ve already started doing a few of their bases, mostly because I never judge the amount of light gray or dark gray I need for the models I have, but other than that they’re just primed).

I can’t wait to get these finished and then onto something else… I have a few Legion models that I think will make a nice, fast palate-cleanser (get it?) after all these little guys. A Saber Tank, Padme, and a unit of Clan Wren Mandalorians (Mandolorians? I forget) that I’m going to use as a unit of ARC Troopers.

This is a mistghast, an undead mouse for Burrows and Badgers, just need to get the base done. In the background my current WIP is visible - Napoleonic British Light Dragoons.

The end is within sight. 12 remaining Yu Jing models (I miscounted previously)…

I’m excited to get these finished. Not just because I am super sick of painting orange, but also just to mix things up a bit. The next is a stack of SW: Legion I have picked up (specifically, Padme, a Saber Tanks, and a unit of Clan Wren that I’m going to use as ARC Troopers). I also have most of a Boba Fett that somebody returned to the store missing an arm, and I’m pretty sure i have a spare arm around somewhere that I can use for him. Probably. Anyway, he’s going into the Clone Army in some way as well.

Ninja paintedish. Sort of umming and ahhing about wether it’s done enough to stop or if I want to get some more tones and feels going in

Yan Huo done. Rather enjoyed painting this one although it was tricky to photograph. The pic doesn’t quite do it justice. Still 22 Yu Jing painted so far. I currently own another 13.

Here’s a fun game. One of these was painted roughly 8 years ago with secondhand craft paints and brushes, and the other two from my current set of miniature paint and sables. I did my best to match.

Thanks for playing, it’s nice to know that my painting skills are at least different than they used to be, if not necessarily leaps and bounds beyond.

More work on the final batch of Yu Jing. Finished the blacks, started the oranges (really should do a touch-up first to cover over a few egregious mistakes, we’ll see if I bother).

Is anyone else tired? Gods, I’m so tired these days…

Honestly, I kind of like the subtleness of the armour in the centre one. I think it has a nice effect.

Thanks! He was one of the first non-monsters I ever painted, and I remember spending hours trying to get things worked out. He’s probably got seven coats of paint on him, but he’s mine.

Latest Yu Jing mini, a Jing Qo. Didn’t enjoy this so much as I had to think about new colours. Which is annoying 23 minis in to a project. I want flow and efficiency by this point :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Progress. Almost done. Almost more done? Almost doner? Whatever. Almost done.

I managed to finish up some Napoleonic British Light Dragons (14th Regiment, or Duchess of York’s Own).

The guys above have now turned into this type of thing. I am not an expert painter by any means, but pleased with the atmosphere of these.

Next some witch elves to add to my dark elder. Long and tedious video calls allow me to assemble and paint these whilst my brain is engaged elsewhere …
