You can just shut up!
(Seriously, it looks great already, far better than I would manage.)

This!!!
Also, interested in hearing your thoughts. Such an appealing game, but I’ve not really looked into it much.
I do love the minis though!!!
I haven’t done much more than read through the rules so far, but I can say I’m more excited to try it now than I was just with a basic overview! There are some really fun abstractions in the ruleset that clearly aim to make flying the star of the show. And even though we’re talking 30 pages of fairly text-dense rules, it’s still landing firmly in the beer-and-pretzels weight class, so that’s good.
Here’s what’s got me really excited: it is a simple hex-movement and firing-arcs system, with certain concepts given rules to enhance the twitchy nature of aerial combat. Most notably, there are 8 manoeuvres in the game (ranked from simple to complex, each plane lists which they can perform), those manoeuvres are chosen in secret before the movement phase, and the movement phase happens before any combat. So there’s a serious predictive element to the combat, which is great to see. The turns play out back and forth though, so there is some flexibility for improvisation, and many of the weapons are unlimited use, so a botched strafing run won’t cost you half a game reloading and repositioning.
There’s more I could go on about but I think that’s the biggest point of excitement for me, beyond those amazing planes. I built plane and car models as a little kid so that’s been a little nostalgia trip too.
[EDIT] I’m going to wait until I have at least one plane painted and mounted before making a decision, but I think the base might be a little too noisy for my tastes with the gaudy motif. Certainly with a grey model on it, I’m not loving the effect.
I painted 2 Daofei. One I’m happy with, one I’m not. To the point I might strip the spitfire one and start again. Also annoying as the spitfire is arguably the more useful weapon on an infiltrating camouflaged beast. Unless I strip it the kaldstrom minis are done
Finished a Zhanying as well now too. Happy with this one! Also finished in less than 3 hours. Woop woop!
Next up are 2 older sculpts, so not looking forward to them, so expect the next update to be a while…
That sounds pretty interesting. I’ll definitely keep it on my radar (not that I need another skirmish game, but when has that stopped me?!
)
To avoid it taking ages I went for a bullish approach of not worrying if it looks as good but focussing instead on speed of painting. Next an old Guilang. Which will be more painful for nit sharing the same design as the rest of the faction at all
I’m learning some hard lessons about scale while muddling through my first Barracuda fighter. If all goes well I should have it finished tonight or tomorrow. I’m generally pleased with how it’s coming out, but boy-oh-boy am I going to be doing things differently for its twin.
Finished half a dozen Burrows and Badgers minis.
First is a bulldog knight
Then there’s a guardsmouse and burrowing mole
A mole wildling and a rat buccaneer
Last but not least, a ferret mercenary (with part colour scheme inspired by @Marx).
I particularly like the Bulldog, the sculpt is great and your paint job has really captured something of the ‘life’ in it
Thanks very much. He’s a big resin model, and towers over the others. I should take a group shot to demonstrate…
One the things I love about this skirmish game is that the size of the beasts is directly linked into their stats. The bulldog counts as a ‘massive’ creature, whilst the mouse and moles are ‘small’, and don’t really stand a chance in a straight up fight.
All the sculpts are so characterful, and a real joy to paint.
Old Guilang done. Ended up being fun to paint, although I think the coat colour means he’s wearing a flashers mac
Oooh, that ferret looks great!.. not sure how I inspired that, but glad if I did!
I was looking for some good colour combinations, and the orange and drak green/blue colours on your Infinity models grabbed me as a great choice.
I’m going to do some spot highlighting, and there’s some work to be done underneath (I went with a blue and grey camo but went too subtle), but after that it’s a quick spray of varnish and this one’s in the bag. These are FUN to paint.
[EDIT]
Meanwhile, Gatefall showed up… I’m a need more paint.
Finally got some breathing time, and decided to attack this guy with no plan and little finesse. It was wonderful.
My school’s mascot is a Bulldog, and I ordered this within minutes of seeing that paint job. Fantastic!
All done, hack job on the camo in place. Sooooo many process improvements to apply to the next one. Just the same I’m happy with it.
Not sure what you’re using for the recess shading (which looks good), but I’ve recently acquired some tamiya black enamel panel liner and it’s a huge timesaver. Might be worth considering if you’re painting a decent number of ships as it keeps them looking clean and is super fast. Nice job though, no criticism implied
.
I used to build a lot of model kits as a kid and the whole time I’ve been painting I’ve been thinking how awesome it would be to have some nice Tamiya enamels for the job. I’ll seek that one out, thanks!
[EDIT] Ooh yeah. That’s the good stuff. Just watched a vid of it in action.
