Star Trek Ascendancy (recruitment)

If A holds B’s trade agreement, A is at peace with B and can move freely through B’s space, and needs B’s permission to hegemonise/invade/colonise a system in which B has ships.

B can recall their trade agreement on their own turn, not at other times.

If A attacks B, the trade agreement is returned automatically. (Hegemony is not an attack.)

Though as I have the board Fed and Cardassians each hold a 1-production agreement from the other right now. Cardassians pulled back their agreements from Xenophobic Uprising, but offered you a new one - though now that I look at it I don’t see an adjacency for them to have done so.

If that’s the case and they hold your agreement but not vice versa: they can move through your space, you can’t move through theirs.

I think they have ships at that asteroid?

To colonize it you have to get his permission or remove your trade agreement first to colonize if he doesn’t give permission.

Offered yes, but I haven’t (yet) accepted. A, I obliged to do so if the Cardassians already hold one of my trade agreements?

No, you need never accept a trade agreement. Although they tend to happen in pairs they are really one-sided things, with most of the benefits accruing to the accepting side.

Just checked my physical copy of the game, and there’s no warp token on Gravitic Sensor Net there either. Added to the errata list I’ll be sending Mattias.

Just gone through the Trade Agreements section again, and I think it looks like this:

If A holds B’s unexhausted Trade Agreement:

  • A gets the resources on the agreement every Recharge Phase
  • B’s ships do not block A’s movement
  • A must have B’s permission before acting when they both have ships in the same place (e.g. to Hegemony, Invade or Colonise)
  • B may revoke the agreement on their own turn
  • if A Attacks B, they must immediately return the agreement, but Hegemony is not Attack

How to improve your ST:A set:

(1) get a bunch of cheap dice that more or less colour-match the factions, so that everyone can have their own set. About 1/10 the price of the official faction dice.
(2) get some “2, 3, 4 twice” dice so that you have more than one random warp lane allocator. That seems to be the magic phrase; I just found some on clearance for 15p each.
(3) have a box for each faction in which their own bits live. Still working on this, but you want to be able to hand out:

  • dashboard
  • homeworld disc
  • starbases
  • fleets
  • control nodes
  • starships
  • cursors for weapons/shields
  • dice
  • advancements
  • fleet cards
  • build/command reminder card
  • any faction-specific bits

and all in one is quicker!

Just FYI, I am starting a new job tomorrow so I may be slow to respond. I am hoping to be able to check in at least twice a day, probably around lunchtime and then again in the evening (UK time).

How did it go?

Hey @RogerBW , is it possible to fit a 2-length Warp Lane between Mazar and Lursen Prime? It looks like it might be possible with a little jiggling, but I’m not positive.

Thanks!

No, even if I push both systems as far as they’ll go I can’t quite make it fit.

Curses. What about a Length 4 to Rigel?

Afraid not - even with everything pushed out of the way it comes up about half a sector short.

It’s fine. It’s fine! It’s fine. We’ll figure something out.

Thanks!

It went well, thank you! Looks really interesting and comes with quite a few perks. It’s pretty hectic though, the R&D team is expanding rapidly at the moment and are trying to get prototypes ready to show off at CES in January.

They also appear to have just begun a weekly board games night but their board game collection is a bit… traditional. Time to get educating methinks!

The drawback is that I’m a bit knackered because my commute has gone from a 30 minute bike ride to just over an hour’s drive each way.

Ouch. You’ll have to introduce them to some type of 4x space game

Arrived today, and they are visually identical to the one that came in the game box. Result.

Consensus so far seems to be disagreeing with me.

I saw! I think the interpretation I like best is I force a reroll and the reroll in the first round is also an automatic hit.
