Star Trek Ascendancy game 3

Yes. I’ll leave that to you to sort out, and do a state dump for the Federation before I go to bed.

Vulcans will offer a Research Trade agreement for their 2P. (to Cardassian)

I accept vulcan’s trade agreement.

To continue: If I can colonize Valakis VI, then I will be offering Ferenginar the 2production trade deal. If I can’t, then the 1 Production trade deal.

(FED) if you don’t give a trade deal, then they will get nothing this next upcoming turn.

Edit I am confused by the turn order. Looking at the main rule book, my impression is Colonization happens before end of turn, after moving. Looking at the short summary, Colonizing happens as part of Build Phase

Colonization is part of the Build Phase (start of turn).

Okay, I deleted my previous post.

C1: Colonized Valakis VI if I can, spending the necessary (culture?)
C2: Extend Trade Deal to Ferenginar
C3: Research into Cochrane Institute (3R?)
C4/C5: Ship goes in/out of warp, exploring along the rim towards Ferenginar.

So your turn is divided into two sections: a “Build” Phase, and then a “Command” Phase.

Building a colony occurs during the “Build” phase. The other things you can do during this phase include (but aren’t exclusively limited to)

  • Putting 1 point of Research into a Research Project
  • Building Nodes (for the various costs)
  • Building Colonies (1 ship and 1 Culture)
  • Building Spaceships (1 Production per ship anywhere you have a Spacestation and/or your Homeworld).

Then, once you are done all your Building, you move into your Command Phase, where you spend Commands to do stuff.

So neither building a colony (which you can’t do during the Command Phase) nor extending a Trade Deal (which happens automatically/diplomatically) requires a Command.

You can start new Research Projects during the Command Phase (indeed, that’s the only way to do so), but you can’t put Research into them except during the Build Phase, and only 1 per project per turn.

Welcome to the game! :slightly_smiling_face:. You’ll be leaning alot. We don’t mind teaching. Also, if I’m not mistaken, please don’t delete any posts. Not necessary so long as the conversation just keeps going.

I deleted the previous one b/c I didn’t want to have multiple sets of orders. In future I’ll just edit ones so things are struck out or excised in some obvious way.

Even editing can sometimes be confusing. So long as the conversion and corrections are done in the chronological order of the posting it is fine. That way an individual won’t have to go back and forth for an edit. So if you had to change something it is best to just post the change rather than going back to “edit” something prior. That way others are able to just “read” the flow of the postings.

okay, so let’s reconsider.

Build Phase:
Colonize Valakis VI

Offer Ferengi Trade Deal (1 vs 2 production depending on whether I can do above)

Command Phase:
C1: Start Research Project - Cochrane Institute
C2&3: Ship Enter/Exit Warp- exploring Towards Ferenginar

If you each had the others trade agreement, then you are at peace and you don’t have to ask and can colonize. If you don’t have a trade agreement among each other, then you have hostile ships in the system and therefor you cannot colonize because you do not “occupy” that system. (ref: para 7.2 & pg 16, definition of “Occupy”)

So a decision on the trade deal should be made prior to attempting to Colonize.

The question about colonization is not whether they want it or I want it- it’s whether it has a pre-warp civilization or not- and I can’t see that information- I may have totally missed it. Is that predetermined for each planet as discovered?. We’ve already sorted out the other question, on the Ferengi turn (when one of my ships was summoned out of the ether).

Anyways, I’m happy for the Ferengi to have the 2 production trade treaty so that solves that.

The exploration card is the one that brought the lost ship. Thus it is an undeveloped system able to be colonized. We don’t draw another card.

Ah. I didn’t understand that wrinkle. That makes things simpler.

Happy to accept the new trade deal. Enjoy your planet !

From a technical perspective. if I see a post with orders in it I tend to act on it, and if it then gets changed I’ll never get notified of it so I may well never see it…

Note that you can strike out text in an edit with [s]…[/s].

Not quite true I’m afraid. See §13.2.2. If Fed holds Ferengi trade agreement and both powers’ ships are in-system, they are at peace, but Fed must ask Ferengi whether they may colonise (because they do not Occupy, i.e. have the only ships in, the system). If they didn’t hold it, then even asking wouldn’t be enough; the Ferengi ships would have to leave the system (one way or another) before the Fed could colonise.

Build phase:

  • Federation colonises Valakis VI. (1 ship, 1 culture.)

Command phase:

  • C1 start Research
  • C2-C3 explore from Earth.
