Self-Promotion, With Or Without Shame

Fight the Landlord is an excellent game. Egyptian Ratscrew is a hoot.

My favourite that you’ve not listed is 99, an excellent 3 player only trick taker with cool bidding wrinkles.

I have played Crib to death, my wife is phenomenally lucky at it.

I’ve only played Spades once, async on BGA, but I really enjoyed it and would like to explore it more, but in person.

Also, honourable mentions for Shit Head (Turn 10 if you prefer); probably the most house ruled game of all time. Crazy 8s (Guy’s Game as it was known in our house) and the current favourite of the boys’, Pablo

Exciting news!

Quinns’ other project PEOPLE MAKE GAMES went to my partner’s work, the immersive starship experience BRIDGE COMMAND. They wore Go-Pro cameras on their heads and made a 45 min video of it.

The Diplomat is my partner Emily

I’m only a few minutes into the video, but so far I’m thoroughly impressed by the facility, story, and the immersive experience.

Kudos to your partner!

I remember when he piloted a caravan

The building is amazing. You use the teleporter room and the only door opens onto a different corridor. The ship doors all go shhh. If the ship gets shot, sparks and smoke come out of the consoles. There’s escape pods. There’s a permanent background spaceship hum. It’s unreal.

Not really self-promoting myself, more that my work has got a Crowdfunder up and running for a card based strategy game called Drones & Droids. If anyone is going to Tabletop Scotland, keep an eye out as there should be some people there demo-ing the game.

I am currently selling everything I’ve ever published for $10 to raise money for a charity in Palestine.

Which charity? I’ll contribute directly.

It’s the Sameer Project.

If you would like any of my RPG stuff regardless, let me know where to send a free bundle.

Thanks, but I won’t have time to read it at present!

I’ve just put up the first draft of a Rallyman GT and Dirt comprehensive rulebook at https://firedrake.org/roger/rallyman-rules.pdf . Updates will go to the same link. Comments very welcome, especially if you know the rules!

I finally finished my 8th novel, A Desperate Path Through the Stars.

This one was a long time coming, but I am really proud of the final result.

Explorer Erika Kiora is captain of her starship for only a few minutes before it explodes. But rather than punishing her or letting her retire to a peaceful cottage in the middle of nowhere, she’s promoted and given command of the largest exploration vessel ever constructed!

With the clock ticking and her government on the verge of a hopeless war, Kiora and her crew are sent into the deepest, darkest reaches of space, trying to find a path through the unknown, blazing a path of hope for the besieged Outer Rim Alliance. But cracks begin to appear before she even manages to leave friendly space, and with enemies at their heels, Kiora is faced with impossible dilemmas and morally questionable orders…

And, look… I know Sci-fi isn’t everyone’s thing, especially not the medium-weight (not light but definitely not heavy) stuff. But for $5.99USD ($7.99 CAD or 4.99 GBP), it would mean so much to me if you picked up a copy, or mentioned to a friend or coworker that you know this crazy Canadian guy that’s trying really hard to be a full-time writer and maybe they’d like a copy?

Just a quick mention that reviews are the lifeblood of Indie authors. I don’t have the budget to throw a big ad campaign at this, but I think it’s pretty dang good, and I’d love the opportunity to write more, both in this universe and others.

You can nab a copy for yourself (or a friend! Or your family! I don’t judge) in the following locations:

Amazon UK
Amazon CAN
Amazon USA

… or any other Amazon Store if you search for MH Questus.

Thanks folks! And if anyone does have feedback or suggestions (for this novel or for future ones!) please do let me know! I promise my skin is thick enough to take constructive criticism!

I’d be interested if I could get an epub or buy it on the kobo store (UK). Amazon do their best to obfuscate ebook sales details, but I assume it’s mobi/Kindle only and I have ethical issues with their ebook/kindle lock-in and monopoly-building. Even if I can convert it, I’d rather not support Amazon.

I used to use Kobo for book sales as well (believe me, I am not a huge fan of Amazon), but it tripled the work I had to do for each book for less than 10% of the sales.

But I can look into it again. Last time I tried was in 2017 or so.

Alternatively, if you want to send me a DM, I can give you a etransfer email and then just send you a .epub of the book. Or a PDF if that works for you. You’d have to get it onto your e-reader yourself, though.

I’ll drop you a message. The first couple of chapters of the preview seem good :+1:.

My review: RogerBW's Blog: A Desperate Path Through the Stars, M. H. Questus

Now obviously I’m biased because I already know and like @Marx . But nobody is unbiased so, shrug, you get what you get.

Once Bitten, my autobiography of my first year in practice, is now available on audiobook via Audible. Yes, I’m sorry to throw my lot in with Bezos, but sales from anywhere else are so low I’m afraid it’s hardly worth using them.

Don’t worry, my awful voice won’t assail your ears - it has been read by the excellent Harry Petrie, who is much more easy to listen to than I am.

Have a peek and check out a free sample of the first 5 minutes here:

Now, as we’re a sharing and caring forum, I’m happy to share a free copy code with any of you lovely people who fancy a listen. If in return you could pop a review on Audible, I’d be eternally grateful.

Actually, eternity is a really long time. I take that back. I’d be grateful for a period up to but not including six months, which I think is pretty fair. Anyway, DM me if you fancy a listen.
