I say we cautiously activate it and follow RossM’s idea, to see if we can get more of them. We won’t survive the winter if we can’t defend ourselves.

The weather is nice and people can feel the potential all around them. Start a new project.
In an attempt to distill drinking water from the pond, some rather incompetent chemists concentrated the toxin instead. The resulting fluid proved an effective chemical weapon, and made the eradication of the mutants a matter of hours, rather than days.
Meanwhile, I will start a project of a water collector/purifier near the lake. Now that we have regained control of the mine, it should only take 3 weeks.

Someone new arrives. Who? Why are they in distress?
Early one morning a bedraggled creature stumbles into the camp. It appears to be one of the former inhabitants of the mine. They are badly wounded and obviously terrified, but keep coming back even when some of the children start throwing rocks at them. They are shouting in a language that we can’t understand, and try to drag people back towards the mine with them.
The mushroom spore collection and farm projects are complete: @RossM and @GabrielH, what is the outcome of these projects?

The farm crops prove rather… unsavory. Of the few brave enough to partake of the meager harvest, many got ill for a few days, and the rest were less than keen on repeating the experiment. Without good water, we can’t expect to get good fruits.

A vast selection of fungus has sprouted. Many are easily harvested and safe to eat.
(Add an abundance of mushrooms)

While working on the automaton, one of the technicians discovered a compartment containing a cassette tape with worn lettering. All that could be read was “…elf…pa…” It was heavier than the other tapes, and the tape inside was an unusual grey color. On a whim he placed the tape inside the automaton, which promptly received a jolt of power. Servos and levers inside the automaton came to life and began to repair the machine from within.
My action is going to be to start a project. The mushrooms have finished, and someone has to figure out which ones taste the best. There’s going to be a cooking contest. The people have 2 weeks to work on their recipes.
