Those Rivs were way ahead of their time. My Mom had a 1984 Chrysler New Yorker, which had a fabulous futuristic NOSTROMO-esque dashboard as well. LEDs, no less. Or as we called them, “La-Di-Da-LEDs” 

Damn. As a kid I had a book all about concept cars that was full of stuff like this. I assume I got rid of it as my interest in cars diminished, but my love of design makes me wish I could revisit it.
Personally, I think the Mercury Cougar (basically a rebadged Ford Thunderbird) had the best looking digital dash cluster of the era ('85-'88).
