I am informed by my partner… that in the early 80s when I was first allowed to watch some TV on Saturday afternoons… some Japanese anime were so popular on German TV that I never even knew that what I watched was anime: http://www.heidi.ne.jp/ → Heidi, Girl of the Alps - Wikipedia
The story of course was originally written by a swiss author named Johanna Spyri and so I simply assumed the show was also European. According to my partner there were a bunch more shows. But I didn‘t watch a lot of TV as a child and Heidi is the only one I remember.
edit: I remember more now thanks to Wikipedia: Wicky der Wikinger (Vicky the Viking) and Biene Maja (Honeybee Maya) are from the same studio though there seems to be some German involvement in the making of at least Vicky… … (going back to Wikipedia to find out more)
Mine has a long story. For a long time my nickname in the old times of IRC in the 90s was Jhovis, which sort of derived from my names (I am a Jose Vicente, that my family shortened from very little to Josevi) with a H thrown in for fantastical added value (and also IRC did not like apostrophes back then).
In uni, the name got shortened from Josevi to Xevi or Chevi. Given how tall I am and that I had long hair, something nearly two meters tall and with that amount of hair with that nickname, and my love for sci fi and fantasy could not have gone amiss. The Star Wars favourite sidekick became my tag on online games of Counterstrike (back in the days when we played in the cybercafe) and eventually became my Steam nickname. So I kept it until now, must be for the last 25 years or so.
Really? That explain things. Heidi and Marco did make a dent on our generation in Spain in the 80s. They showed you that life could be tough, way tougher than you thought it was. While talking sideways with huge eyes.
Mine is pretty simple - my surname is Griffiths, therefore I’ve been called derivations such as Griff, Griffter and Griffster all my life and my birth year was 1977. It was the first ever online name I chose and I’ve kinda stuck with it. I am also Izzardesque in a lot of places because apparently my way of telling a story is very similar to the comedian.
Something quite bizarre just happened to me. I got a call from my daughter as they were watching Netflix at home and suddenly the language on the accounts changed to Spanish and some accounts were deleted and replaced.
I went straight on to change my account password after I kicked everybody out that was using the account, and called Netflix to let them know what was happening. Seems like somebody had hacked my account, and sold the details to somebody else. They filed a report so I had a record of my complaint and I thought that there was a lesson there.
Five minutes ago I received an email from somebody (I guess whoever had paid a hacker to get my account details) wanting to put a claim as suddenly their access to netflix was cut. I straight away reported the email as phishing and got it out of my inbox.
Be careful out there. I am now keeping an eye on my bank account, I don’t think I had that password down for anything else, but make sure you use long passwords, alphanumerical and with good security. I committed the mistake of shortening mine so he kids could access from their tablets, and here we are.
The plot thickens, just saw on my mail that my account was being accessed to from a Smart TV in Argentina. I consider myself lucky. If it had been from a country I don’t speak the language for, I could have struggled to change the settings back
Two factor authentication. Doesn’t work if you’re sharing an account, but it really cuts down on this.
Also, netflix has a service that allows you use your webbrowser or phone to generate a short code that you punch into your TV or other thing with a crappy keyboard. So you can us a good password, and not have to punch it in with a remote control. Most things you’re using on a TV or TV-adjacent device do this, too.
Gloomhaven alone is worth it. Add Terraforming Mars and the thing is a bargain. The rest is probably fine Note: the latest DLCs for both of these are just 30% Coupons (Venus Next and Jaws of the Lion). Even in a Steam Sale you won’t be getting Gloomhaven for much less than 20€ (currently it is 35€) and even if you did not enjoy it on the table, the digital experience is pretty awesome. Same for TM, even at best sale prices this does not go below 10,- (currently 20,-) … and that is without the DLCs for the maps and prelude.
And if you already have Gloomhaven the rest of the bundle is less than 10€ which is pretty good and I need to check if I want Game of Thrones and Blood Rage (I probably have the rest or am not all that interested.
My kids only had 2 days of school last week because of snow. So we’re now on day 3 of a 4-day weekend for them (day 2 of 2 of the weekend for me), and it’s -8F (-22 C) outside right now, so we aren’t leaving the house (and haven’t all weekend).
Was outside at lunch when a neighbour mentioned a car had been broken in to overnight.
She’d heard I had a dashcam so asked me to check my footage. Unfortunately it stopped recording at 10pm and the break-in was at 2am.
What I’m amazed by is that the car window was smashed not 30ft from my bedroom window. I don’t recall hearing anything. Turns out it didn’t have an alarm which I’d hope would have woken me up.
