It is a little tragic, isn’t it? But it’s one of the few thing that differentiates good brick and mortar stores from always-cheaper online options. And I work very hard to know the stock, not kidding. Lots of reading, podcasts, watching diverse reviews. I enjoy my job for the most part, but on a cost-benefit analysis… yeesh.
I spent a summer working construction when I was in my last year of university. My boss told everyone that he had a rocket scientist working for me (albeit it was premature at that point). And as much as the current job has its issues (mostly difficult customers, and lordy are some of them difficult), it’s still kilometers better than working R&D.

I know the owner knows his shit and I have chatted with him often about games and publishers. I am always especially curious about the latter.
Chatting with his employees, I always notice that in my specific subset of games I usually know more than them. For most of them it is just a job and for that they know enough especially about the new games they have on the shelves and classics. They have all played a reasonable amount of games… and have recommended good games in the past.
and they have to be able recommend games for everyone and need to know children’s games and family games and other stuff as well.
But for example they do not seem to realize BGG exists… or that during covid there are options for remote gaming or which games might be suited to that… as usual we‘re „extremely“ competent in the digital #Neuland (10 years ago Merkel said something about how new the internet was and nerds like me still haven’t forgotten because since then nothing has changed… we’re the #1 in not understanding the digital world…)
Right this second mentally my brain has rebooted and does not compute. I think I might have said I am the person who gets every food related order wrong, or something happens at least 75% of the time.
My kids are gluten intolerant so occasionally I get a happy meal, eat it and give them the toy.

We had a bunch too because when I took it back and they wanted to make up for me it (apology, fresh food, refund and such), I told them toss in one of each of toys they had in stock and I’m good.
Which was awesome to see my oldest come home to a bunch of “mommy surprise” of “happy feels” toys as he calls them.
There’s a question I’ve been meaning to ask… everyone with the 77 in there nickname? Are you all Star Wars fans or are you born the same year I am? Or something completely different?
It’s just the 77… no other numbers like 23 or 42 which have way more (pop-)cultural significance
According to wikipedia 3 (semi-)famous people share my birthday. I’ve only heard of one of them before and couldn’t care less But I know 2 people personally that were born on the same day I am, so there’s that.
And for stars that shared my birthday… my favourite one was Kirk Douglas! Although born many, many years before me, it did always make me smile as a little factoid.
I don’t know a single person born the same day as me, though, but randomly, I’ve met 6 people all over the world that are within 6 days of it. I actually work with somebody now that is 3 days older than me.

My best friend growing up was 3 hours younger than me (I was born 11pm, he was born 2am the next day). And strangely half my friend group at school had our birthdays in the same week - pretty much a birthday a day with a day or two off. Party season was POLITICAL.
Oh, she’s pleased with Prince, but Azalea is the same year as well.

Ah! That got me thinking who the nearest famous person to my DOB is. Turns out Novak Đoković is 16 days older than me, Kendrick Lamar is 10 days younger, and Lionel Messi is 17 days younger.
Well, I meant actual DOB above and of those three that are listed on Wikipedia I only know Jonathan Rhys Meyers (who will always be King Henry from the Tudors in my mind, I never finished watching the show he grated on me too much)…
Jamie Lannister–I mean Nikolaj Coster Waldau–is exactly 7 years older than me. Considering he was my favorite character in the books that exist, that’s cool.
Also: Gary Gygax, Jacob Bernoulli and Hilde Domin. I am quite pleased by the latter, I love her poetry. My favorite poem of hers is called Unaufhaltsam. Plus innumerable historical figures, actors, composers, winners of the nobel price that I’ve never heard of and so many more.
I also feel like John Oliver should be older than me by more than a couple of months. And Orlando Bloom should be way younger than me not older by a few months.
