Jack waits…lurking…
OK, @Lordof1 move the victims please.
Okay, here’s the movements for the poor unfortunate lost souls:
149 to 163
84 to 66
3 to 4
21 to 41
147 to 133
@COMaestro pick a police token to reveal. Then you’ll decide whether to kill in hour II or wait.
The one by 40 please
It’s a me @RossM !
Wait again
Weird. I thought the most common type of chicken in Victorian England was the Cochin.
I just like the eventual victim to be really close to police when I strike, so when I inevitably escape, it makes the police look that much more bumbling.
OK, @Lordof1 please move the Wretched. (They can backtrack if you want to.)
I know Wretched didn’t mean quite the same thing back then, but I’m going to call them Unfortunates if that’s okay.
4 to 12
66 to 51
163 to hmmmm 174
41 to 20
133 to 132
A slightly weird note here and apologies to everyone, I’ll spoilerify this because it’s not to do with the game and I don’t want to ruin anyone’s fun so don’t read if you’re not in the mood for some half-assed sancimonious preaching that says more about me than anything else… but… I’m a little surprised at myself by feeling unsettled that we’re playing a game based on actual murders, I hadn’t really thought of it before because I’ve played Scotland Yard and I hadn’t realised how deeply based on the ripper murders the game was but… hmmmm. I’m happy to play wargames of course so I’m a hypocrite, but I’d like to at least acknowledge here that actual people died - Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Liz Stride, Catherine Eddowes and Mary Kelly. None of them deserved it and their ends were horrific.
I’m happy to keep playing (I mentioned the hypocrite bit above?) but I think I’d like to just acknowledge here that these were real people who really died.
For a bit more context.
@COMaestro, please choose a police token to reveal.
That’s the term I keep wanting to use too.
Yes, this does feel more exploitative than Whitehall—in part I suspect because there the victim was never identified, indeed no head was ever found. (And honestly you could retheme that game as almost anything.)
I am a person who picks up a lot of casual knowledge about things, including the psychology of serial killers, but I’ve never been into true crime.
Token by 126 please.
Jack strikes at 132!
The chase is on! Lemme at ‘em! Where am I, anyway?
Whitechapel
Jack records current location (132 in column III).
We repeat this sequence:
- Jack moves to an adjacent numbered circle (private topic) and advances the move track
- Jack may not move through a policeman
- if Jack reaches the hideout, the night ends
- if the move track reaches 15 without Jack being in the hideout, or if Jack cannot legally move, Jack loses
- Jack may instead use a special movement (Alley or Coach) - Alley moves across a block, Coach moves two circles and may cross a policeman but counts as two moves. Jack has 3 Coaches and 2 Alleys available for this night.
- Police discuss and move, in order as shown (up to 2 crossings each)
- In order as shown, each policeman may either
- (a) search for clues, specify an order for adjacent numbered circles, first one on Jack’s trail gets a yellow clue marker
- (b) make an arrest, specify one circle, if Jack is there the police win.
