Last game you bought?

That’s pretty disappointing given Osprey’s track record. It seems like the sort of game that you squeeze into a ‘Lost Expedition’-sized box and it suddenly becomes a more appealing product.

I’m really not sure I actually want to keep it now.

Wow, that is a significant downgrade.

DIce Hospital: Community Care has arrived!

So I took the plunge and ordered the Woodestic Crokinole board, via mastersofgames in the UK. Ordered on a Monday morning and delivered to rural Ireland on a Wednesday. Pretty impressed by that I must say.

The board itself is a thing of beauty, steamed beech playing area and ebony ditch rail. I’m really glad I didn’t try making one without seeing this in the flesh first as it is amazingly smooth, and now I know what to aim for if I ever attempt to make one myself.

It’s technically my Christmas present from my good lady wife, so it’s staying in the box until Christmas day… (also purchased with the caveat that while my game purchasing has been lower this year, it will have to continue that way for a while!)

I am already like an 8 year old waiting to open their present!

The Crew was recently on sale through Amazon for $10, so that got snapped up. Big thanks to my wife for notifying me when she discovers sales like this. (Gloomhaven was also on sale for $85, but we have JotL waiting for us, and I would rather we got through it before deciding to spend a bunch on the full game.)

Then, I have been wanting the Barkham Horror: Meddling of Meowlathotep scenario for Arkham Horror TCG. I was putting it on my Christmas list when I discovered how hard it is becoming to find at a retail price. My wife was looking around for it and found it available online and told me I could order it, but when shipping was almost $20 on its own, I couldn’t do it. So I called around local game stores and found it at one not too far away and picked it up after work.

So I have been told I can open one, and the other will be stashed away for Christmas. Decisions, decisions…

I ended up offloading a couple of RPG books, Mandala and Glory, in exchange for Wild Space and Calico. I’ve already given Wild Space a quick solo play, and hope to get a few rounds of Calico in this weekend.

Wow didn’t my really think you were listening to the “you can only open one”

So thanks to the Miniature Market Black Friday sale, I grabbed a few games for really good prices.

Via Nebula aka, My Little Brass. I forget why this popped in my radar, but an accessible and incredibly produced euro that plays in about an hour? Sounds good, but at close to $70 I could never justify it, especially as it basically require 3+. At $26? I’m in!

Guilds of Cadwallon - an old CMON light filler game from 2013. Popped on my radar while listening to the Boardgamers Anonymous Top 100, when one of the hosts called it one of his favorite hidden gems. Decided to look into what it was, and found the deluxe edition on massive sale. For the price I paid, I’ll take the risk. Worst case we do t like it and I’ll donate it to a library or school.

BattleCON War of Indines - anyone here who knows my tastes know that I love a good fighting game; skirmish, dueling, whatever. BattleCON has been on my radar for ages but I could never pull the trigger. Mostly due to the semi-perfect information which awards the kind of game mastery I generally can’t be bothered with. That said, getting what I believe is considered to be the best standalone box for $12??? I couldn’t pass up the chance to finally try it.

Now I just need to email MM and find a way to get a handful of orders from over the past year that are all on hold, shipped to Canada. I expect it may not happen for awhile as they’ll be in busy season for the next month and half.

Anyways, that’s it for now but I expect I’ll post again soon. Looking a pre-ordering a couple of new shiny things (Dwellings of Eldervale and Lost Ruins of Arnak primarily) as well as the new HP Funkoverse set for my son.

Calico is SO good.

You’ll probably have to rethink that idea. Despite being pretty much an abstract game with tiny cards, the art on them swings wildly between creepy and almost porn. Sometimes both at once.

Don't open this unless you want to see a dwarf with an oversized nipple ring

I got a cheap copy a while ago, played it once and then immediately decided to get rid of it. The minis are nice, but that’s about it. The gameplay wasn’t good enough for me to put up with that art.

I had a really hard time deciding between it and Isle of Cats, but box size won out. Also, in all of my recent shuffling I had found myself without a small-box solitaire option, so this better fit the bill for quick, painless sessions.

I really ought to mention this one in the ideal box sizes thread, but I’ve gotta guess it’s in there by meow.

Was talking to my CG friend… so we both got Legend of the Five Rings LCG in the sales.

Why why did I click on that. I was expecting ‘eye roll’ and I got ‘eye bleach’. I really don’t like art that gives women beach wear to fight in - but I think I’ll die on the hill of no dwarf nipple rings ever again.

Honestly: I really hope this is a very, very crowded hill.

One time, all the nipple-ring dwarves gathered on the hill to promote nipple-ringing. But the hill got so crowded, their rings all started to link together and by tea, none of them could move freely. This came to be known as the nipple-ring rat-king incident at lowleaf tuffet and was quite the horrorshow (as you can easily imagine).

Oddly enough it’s a giant dwarf sporting that there nipple ring. The Son if Uren is about 12ft tall. Which is rather tall for a dwarf.

To this day I really love the Confrontation rules and lore. The models and art were always so stupid with the way the women were dressed. I spent a lot of time painting leggings on to make them less awful. The dwarf nipple ring doesn’t annoy me at all though.

Overall I have a lot of fondness for the art style. Anything that’s not sexist in it I like thr aesthetics

Everyone’s got their cup of tea! I know not everyone likes anime-style things, and I just love it, despite all its flaws.

Thanks for the heads up. May have to cancel and reorder, or refund that game.

I could deal with it fine, but my son definitely cannot.

Edit: sent an email to MM asking if they can refund that item or just the entire order.

Thanks again for the heads up as my son would not be up for that.
