Nusfjord was the Uwe big box that I first got into (after failing to grok the Agricola solo in 200x) Even though I owned Arle before that . I found it really accessible and the solo is just so nice and clean.
Bought Takeover: Ladder Climbing Tactics. Iāll see what this is about.
I am really tempted on Moon Colony Bloodbath
I think there are signs this might be the cap of what we can deal with! So I might have got out of the pool with only a toe dipped in!
6 nimmt, to replace the last copy of 6 nimmt that I gave away. And now Iām thinking of buying 6 nimmt again so that if I give someone else this new copy of 6 nimmt, Iāll still have one :).
I had a bit of a splurge, also picking up:
- Tipperary
- Dorfromantik
- Q.E.
- A Gentle Rain
- Thatās Pretty Clever!
Hot Streak
Itāa all @lalunaverdeās fault! (and Nick Murray) (and SpaceBiff) (and GoatCabin)
Not my fault. Quinns hyped me up when I checked their website!! (he did the rules teach with the usual SUSD-style hype)
First, I guess some catchup:
A month ago or so, I got an email with a discount code for Eagle-Gryphon Games. It seemed a pretty good deal, since it didnāt exclude already on-sale items. I managed to pick up Fleet: Arctice Bounty for the cost of shipping. Actually, I had to add the some fish and crab meeples to the order in order to meet the minimum order ($15 off a purchase of $15 or more).
I think I could have figured out how to play the Fleet solo mode without actually owning the expansion.
Also, I bought the Legendary: A James Bond Deck Building Game ā No Time to Die expansion; it got added to an Amazon order in order to bulk up the order price to earn next day shipping on something else.
And, without realizing it, I also accidentally ordered Spirit Island: Premium Token Pack 1, which I added to my cart for the same reason, but then managed to get confused when it didnāt actually count towards the minimum for the urgent delivery; and apparently I didnāt actually remove it from the cart before placing the order. Oh well.
Last week, I received two pledges for Merchants Cove: Master Craft.
I was a backer on the Kickstarter project and pledged just the expansion, and then later added on the Bardwood Grove expansion in order to receive the Performer cross-over merchant kit and have that 14th merchant available.
At the time that I backed the expansion, I owned the base game and the Secret Stash expansion, but was looking to find the 3 expansion merchants. I almost bought them retail, but eventually stumbled across a BoardGameGeek auction for the base game, Secret Stash, all 3 expansion merchants, and taking over the other personās Kickstarter Pledge for Merchants Cove Master Craft ā all for about as much as it would cost to buy the 3 expansion merchants at retail prices. The takeover pledge is for the āBig Boxā as well as a couple of small addons I didnāt think were worthwhile ā but nice to have!
Fast forward a bit, and then a bit more, and then two years more, and we learn that Final Frontier Games is bankrupt and the products are at Quartermaster Logistics, but money is still owed. Itās giving Rallyman Dirt at this point, and Iām pretty sure Iām just out of luck.
But QML arranged for extra payments to pay off the import fees and repay for shipping. So twice I do this, once for each pledge.
Last week, I received both packages. Iām very torn. The big box provides storage for everything and thatās useful, since I believe I have a complete collection except for the plastic marble decanter (which I plan to 3d print the community-created STL). But it is big. Bigger than Anachrony: Infinity Box.
According to the Kickstarter update, the Big Box is 38x33x25cm. As an American, I can only image what those numbers could possibly mean. How many football fields is that? Or what is that in cans-of-soup?
So now, I have to go list the redundant content for sale to recoup my costs. My (realistic?) hope is that the sale will cover all of the additional QML costs plus most of the original pledge takeover. The company being out of business may just help with that.
If it helps, my slide rule says itās 117 Oinks.
Itās 0.17x0.15x0.11 Bald eagle wingspans
6.5x5.6x4.24 average Freedom Fries
To use the units of my youth, 1/79744.817 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Or if you prefer 1/39345.513 acre-foot.
I thought about measuring it compared to Wales which seems a pretty standard measurement!
Ah, but thatās volume against area. You could measure the thickness youād get if it were spread evenly over Walesā¦
Good point! Although you could just about calculate how much area is above sea level and by how much and calculate a volume from there!
I just discovered the old thing of telling the temperature by counting the number of times a cricket chirps, so just assume Iāve translated that into a mad size equivalent.
I dunno:
0 Kelvin = 0 chirps
5000 Kelvin = 0 chirps
Though I wonder if it would work on a more granular scale?
Buying directly from CMYK is cheaper than I expected. I bought Monikers: Monikers-er (a Monikers box that I donāt own). Shipping is $10 and Monzoād the whole thing and the total is Ā£23.
Iāll keep this in mind when Magical Athlete shows up
Eh? Must be box size.
Hot Streak cost me $20 last week
I came back from Wellycon with:
-
Three games that were simply too cheap for me to pass up:
- Pulp Detective (+expansion#1) ā I am not expecting this to be great but, like some others here, Iām a sucker for the theme, and the price was too good.
- Mottainai ā this one I know people really do like, but⦠I think it might do my head in. I enjoy Red7 but Iāve never had any interest in trying that gamesās advanced rules using the icons, and my impression is that Mottainai is rather more complex. At the price, though, I couldnāt say no.
- Alubari: A Nice Cup Of Tea ā Iāve pondered this one in the past, and decided to take a punt. Iām pretty sure I could pass it along for the same money if it doesnāt click.
-
One game that was not so cheap, but that I was always going to buy when the opportunity next arose:
-
Samurai ā Iāve wanted this for quite a while, and I got to play it earlier this year and confirm that it was my kind of thing. The copy on sale was the same (Rio Grande) edition1 as Iād borrowed in February, and was in pristine condition, so it was a no-brainer. Very happy with that acquisition!
1 Of the versions of the game Iāve seen pictures of, this is the one I like best (i.e. has the components which appeal to me the most). Although if I had this very nice custom paint job of the Fantasy Flight edition, I wouldnāt be at all sad. I am also relieved that it does not look like this.

Just got my pre-order of Unmatched: Battle of Legends Vol. 3, featuring Blackbeard, Pandora, Loki, and (as my wife shall ever refer to it) the noble Chupacabra!
Unfortunately one of the Loki cards is damaged, looks like a hole punch was used on it just short of actually puncturing the card. Already got a replacement ordered thanks to excellent service by their team on Discord, as BoL v3 wasnāt on the online replacement request form yet, since itās not in retail, and they updated the form after I mentioned it, despite their being tired from attending Origins.
Really looking forward to trying out Loki. Some of his cards are labeled as Tricks which go into your opponentās hand after you play them and then they can play them back but with a positive effect for you or negative effect for them when they do. Alternately, if they just discard the card, it goes back to your hand. Sounds fun!
